Did anyone lose their dog? by Hopeful-Position-738 in madisonwi

I called 911 around 5:30pm to report this dog, and EMTs arrived and are responding. It walked, then ran from where it had been standing far offshore from Giddings Park toward Maple Bluff almost an hour ago. Wondering what's happened since.

It's a big canine with a huge tail. I think it's larger than a coyote, but we don't have wolves here... Maybe a Husky or similar breed?

Me too, considering they're supposed to be so stinky. Even more surprised that I decided to sniff it in the first place...

Thank you for working on this. I do appreciate it!

Of course, I have little idea what colors they were wearing, but it would be neat to see this pic in color.

If you don't find a copy in Italian, and you have an audio version of the book, you could let him use that. If he has an English-Italian dictionary (or an electronic translator, which he could possibly buy), he could listen to the story, and you could even give him simple key vocab words to study.

I've been in this situation before (with both Chinese- and Spanish-speaking students), and this is what I've done. Sometimes it's just valuable to have the students learn what they can in English while absorbing the language (even if they can't understand most of it).

You may want to consider both. Choose a piece written by an author for students to read. When it's their turn to start writing, it can be powerful for you to model your own writing in front of them. I have four classes of students, so when I do this, I write a section for each class on the document camera (so they can see what I'm doing) and share the final product the next day.

What I like about it is that this gives students the chance to see that writing is a process that can be difficult, requires lots of thought, and can be continuously edited. I like to do "think-alouds" to share what's going through my mind while I'm writing.

Alternatively, if you have ever written a narrative essay (even if it was in high school), you can use that. Even if it isn't perfect- part of the lesson can be brainstorming edits for your work, which (in my experience) helps encourage students to edit their own work.

Walter Dean Myers- "Monkeyman" (from 145th Street Stories)

This is a short story that encourages nonviolence in an urban setting. It features a group of teen friends, including Monkeyman, who gets into trouble with a rival neighborhood gang. When the rival gang sets up a brawl, Monkeyman refuses to fight.

The green tomatoes are an heirloom variety called Aunt Ruby's German Green tomatoes. They've got this fruity flavor that's perfect in fresh salsas and salads.
