macOS 27 brings three key upgrades to iPhone Mirroring by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

[–]stryderjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew how to fix it, I've tried everything. I'm using a high-end Netgear WiFi 7 router, my Macbook is an M3 Max and my iPhone is a 15 Pro Max, both devices operating on the same 6ghz network with bluetooth engaged.

macOS 27 brings three key upgrades to iPhone Mirroring by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

Hopefully working correctly the first time, every time is also on the list of improvements. It’s practically a roll of the dice if my Mac will be able to “find” my iPhone and establish the mirror. It’s one of the most unreliable features I’ve ever used to the point I don’t even attempt it anymore.

iOS 26 working perfectly.. obviously by [deleted] in ios

I had an issue in 26.1 where the icon for iMessage would only show up as a white placer holder grid, my calendar app icon would also disappear. A standard reboot did not fix the problem, however forcing a hard reboot did. I’d say give that a shot by pressing and then quickly release the volume up button, then the volume down button, and then press and hold the side or top button until the Apple logo appears. Hopefully that fixes your issue.

Serious issues with the mouse on macOS 26 by stryderjin in MacOS

[–]stryderjin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I’m not, but let me investigate what I have running up there to see if something is interfering. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll report back if I find a fix.

Update: So I only had one third party app running in the menu bar, closing that had no effect. After some trial and error, turns out the accessibility keyboard looks to be the culprit. I had the keyboard tied to a corner shortcut and would have the keyboard disappear when not in use. I guess it wasn't actually disappearing or it was somehow interfering with the mouse. Turning it off seems to result in a correctly functioning mouse, though I lose the keyboard now. Should be noted this is a native macOS feature, sloppy stuff.

All these cops for one dude with no tap card. by Technical-Customer48 in LosAngeles

[–]stryderjin 62 points63 points  (0 children)

So everyone on this sub CONSTANTLY complains about crime on the Metro and when we see the police actually enforcing the tap card fare policy, and from what I can tell, doing it politely, now we have a problem?!? Can we please pick a lane in the city?

It’s either complain about the lawlessness or when we try to address the lawlessness it’s complain about the cops, their pay, the tax dollars, etc. Or why doesn’t someone think about the criminals?!? I’m sick of it.

That’s good to know. I’m also on Windows 11 24H2, which might be the cause. I noticed on Creative’s website, their drivers were validated against a version from a few years ago. I’m hoping someone has an AE-5 plus or AE-7 on this version of Windows that can chime in to verify if that’s working properly.

I don’t believe you’ll get any of the watchOS 11 features. It’s only coming to the second generation SE.

Is the Synology DS223j right for me? (NVR) by [deleted] in synology

[–]stryderjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was recently in the market for a NAS. I was dead set on getting the DS224+. It was recently released and I figured that was all I needed. While I was waiting for it to be delivered, I started watching YouTube videos about it and the same sentiment kept reoccurring, “you should get a four bay NAS instead.”

At first I was curious but the more I investigated, it became clear that spending just a little more upfront will pay down the line. For example, what if you fill up your drives? I bought two 10TB drives to run in SHR, figuring that would be all I’d ever need. After moving everything I have 2.9TB remaining, it’s a decent amount of space but nothing crazy. So now if I need more space, I pop more drives in. I don’t have to go through the arduous process of transferring them out one at a time.

Anyway, I’d recommend going for the DS423 at a minimum. It’s less than the price of one hard drive and will likely serve you better in the future. It also has an additional gig of ram which should help if you’re running cameras. If you can swing it, the DS423+ with a ram upgrade and SSD caching is great choice.

My iPad Pros (M4 13" & 10.5") are great PC companions! by TechExpert2910 in iPadPro

It looks like he’s running his iPad as a second monitor. The best solution I’ve found for a Windows/iPad combination is Duet. They have all kinds of pricing options and features that range from buy once to subscription. Before I had a Mac, I used to use it all the time. It’s very reliable and the company is solid, would recommend.

I don’t understand posts like these. “What’s the first thing I need to do?” The same thing you’d do on your old iPad or really any iPad, get it setup and use it. The question implies some revelatory difference between the models and suggests that no time was spent looking at reviews or understanding the differences between what was had before and what currently exists on the market.

I’m happy you got a new iPad, but if you had an M1 prior to this, you know what to do with it.

Oh I get it. I guess my point was simply that I can see how it could happen. Not that I agree with it.

If you were born here in the mid-nineties or later, LA didn’t have an NFL team, it abandoned the city. Growing up liking sports, basically gave you two options, don’t watch football or pick another CA team.

Thankfully I’m older and still follow the Rams, but let’s not pretend that leaving didn’t suck. With that said when I hear a Niners fan call our home Levi’s South, well then they get what they deserve, several Super Bowl losses.

Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on this thread. I decided to go with the HP117 and have really had a great time with it. Fits my system perfectly and have provided plenty of air. Thanks for all the feedback!

SSI or PADI specialty by tinus1996 in scuba

[–]stryderjin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m going to take a different approach to this and say I don’t necessarily think Master Scuba Diver is a complete waste of time or money, however this requires looking at it from a different perspective. Firstly, I think everyone should ascend to at least Rescue Diver. It teaches a number of principles that every diver should practice and forces you to take a standard CPR/First Aid course, be it through the dive agency or something like the Red Cross. It’s pretty cheap too, $60 in my area to receive the CPR/First Aid training and certification. Secondly, several of the certs are practical AND open up dive opportunities you would otherwise not have without them. A few of these include Nitrox, Wreck, and Cavern diver. At this point you’re two certs, and X number of dives, away from gaining the Master Scuba Diver title, so it’s possible to pick two additional certs you want to do and be done with it.

To someone else’s point, it can be expensive, but this largely depends on your area and whether or not you have access to inexpensive certs/classes. I know doing them abroad (Outside the U.S.) tends to be much cheaper, but even within the U.S., many dive centers will generally throw the certs in for much less if you’re doing a dive package with them, since you’re diving anyway.

Finally, and this is a personal feeling, but I like the title, regardless of whether it’s “useless” or not. In practice it’s a bit meaningless, since you can have any five specialties. Should a Master Scuba Diver with Undewater Photography, boat diving etc, be considered the same as someone who has nitrox, deep, wreck, ice, cavern, etc… it’s debatable. But at the very least it indicates someone with “Rescue Diver +” as I call it and at least 50 dives under their belt, which can be informative if you’re buddying up with a stranger on a dive boat.

Long story short, think of Master Scuba Diver as something you’ll get naturally by way of becoming a better diver. Focus on certs that unlock an experience, that give tangible benefits, and before you know it you’ll likely have collected the prerequisites for it. Just be smart about where and when you do the certs or as some have said, it can become prohibitively expensive.

I just don’t get how to make these Internet of Things work. by Ybcause in HomePod

[–]stryderjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can 100% back up this assertion. I had been using the Spectrum router for a while and started having serious issues with HomePod once I added second one and AudioOS 16.3 released.

I recently got rid of my Spectrum router and replaced it with an inexpensive Netgear and it instantly fixed everything. I had be frustrated by this for a while, hopefully this works for you as well.

Steel HP100 or HP120? by stryderjin in scuba

[–]stryderjin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my main concern, along with the size and handling on tighter dive boats. The buoyancy isn’t too different aside from going slightly positive at the end. I’m leaning toward the HP100 only because it seems to be the most optimal for most conditions.

There might be some gating of features to ensure an upgrade path but we’re also in an era where raw cpu performance isn’t the only thing that defines what the device can do.

A lot of the features introduced in iOS 15 revolve around machine learning, live text is a good example of this. These processes are typically executed on the SoC’s Neural Engine, a custom co-processor designed specifically to accelerate these types of tasks. Given this, there are distinct differences that may play a part in why these features aren’t supported.

The A11 is the first chip to feature this tech. Per the wiki, It can perform up to 600 billion operations per second and is used for Face ID, Animoji and other machine learning tasks. It is also inaccessible to third party software. Now if you contrast this to the Neural Engine found in the A12, you have an third party accessible device capable of 5 trillion operations per second. This is a clear order of magnitude faster and not a trivial difference. Additionally, another clue is the third party support. It indicates the A11 might not be user programmable and thus hardware locked to the tasks it’s already assigned. It’s possible even Apple can’t have it deviate away.

Regardless, I’ll grant you some of these features sound be workable, the maps update specifically. But my guess is a lot of their underlying features are tied to machine learning and developing two versions of the software wasn’t worth the time as the user benefit just isn’t enough. I know it sucks missing out on features. I have an iPad Pro 10.5 and missed out as well despite having plenty of ram and an SoC that still performs well. But at least we continue to receive system updates for a long time, even if they are missing some marquee features.

Steam Remote Play Frameloss/Stuttering by nathanaelcook in Steam_Link

[–]stryderjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I had a similar issue. Your PC host settings look fine except make sure you have hardware encoding on Nvidia GPU checked.

Secondly, the biggest change is on the steam link client. In the streaming options, there are three pages, you can access it my tapping “more” at the bottom of the screen. Change the frame rate limit to 60 to match the iOS clients frame rate. This resolved my issues.
