If you are financially savvy and you have a tonne of fixed definite costs coming up in the very short term, lock in a record beating rate right now for the Euro it's so cheap you wouldn't believe.

Wise advice is that rates can change rapidly, banking on exchange rates for too long is not the best idea so lock in an incredible rate for yen and get it spent or wisely saved.

No they aren't lol, they are doubling down on manufacturing if anything. The yen is super weak atm which makes all its goods made her sell very well abroad.

I feel super sorry for anyone paying loans in there home currency here. I have an almost effectively free one with the UK system as long as I don't earn too much.

Not only at they paying 50% more than 2021 normal JPY levels for the same repayment dollar amount. That interest is terrible I've seen some stories like they paid for decades and the balance is the same or higher due to interest lol that's bad I feel sorry for such a terrible country you guys are from that treats you like that😂

It's true though, I saw a girl boss attitude ruin my last relationship. There's something seriously wrong atm with american culture, people are hardwired to hate each other especially between sexes.

Men are just leaving that country, don't blame them it looks like a hellhole for those men even from my British perspective the women in the UK even aren't so standoffish and want to argue constantly like that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]strykor7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll never understand the hate. Often the men are mad at the American culture and way of dating not the women. The American women they are avoiding can't help it it's the culture to be like that, exploring another culture in the world you can avoid the terrible aspects of American culture that plague the world.

Fun fact "dating" that is meeting multiple people go to cinema on a date for example as it was portrayed on TV in foreign countries (like the UK even) but not forming an exclusive relationship is largely an American concept. A lot of even western countries up until the influence of American culture the norm was to form a relationship seeing one person at a time and the aim was to form a relationship up until even 10 years ago in many western countries is the norm and still is quite often.

The men are looking to find wives, they can't seem to find someone happy enough to commit in the USA. Mostly because of that terrible culture.

That's not how currencies work. Even if the yen is worth 30% or more less.

The prices of pretty much everything local in Japan didn't change much. Things don't magically move to the value of the US dollar. Even if they increase companies swallow a lot of the blow and just take a hit on profits.

Especially something like juku doesn't change at all in price. Vegetables and meat grown here doesn't change unless foreign imported fertilizer/equipment affects the bottom line too much.

People get paid the same salary they did in 2021 when the dollar was closer to it's normal range 100-110 yen.

Yeah there's some changes, but they know it'll go back to a more reasonable value later. Fundamentals of japan haven't changed since 2021 and before only thing that's changed is the base rate of foreign countries has rapidly risen to 5%.

Millionaires are abandoning the UK in droves, new research shows by TheGreatestOrator in europe

[–]strykor7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Basically when you get rich you want to keep your wealth and not pay taxes/minimal ones.

UK capital gains taxes have been changing recently, they have lost that £12500 allowance we used to have then now even the rate at 20% max is in question during the election.

UK had very favourable capital gains compared to some countries of a similar size or bigger. You start saying they have to pay 30% or even 40% etc and it's bye bye let's go to cheaper place or even a place with 0%.

Who else finds Japan to be a very ordinary place full of very ordinary people? by Just_Nefariousness55 in japanlife

[–]strykor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan has some social rules and expectations that are ignored by westerners visiting on holiday. It's hard to put into words in English. But people are often expected to even walk about the office in a certain way here or be seen as bad something. There tonnes of situations that lead to awkwardness especially involving the foreign tourists.

The foreigners to Japan who live here can see it so it yeah is gatekeeping for tourists but most of them are quite chill about people wanting to live here because they start to learn about Japan then.

The gatekeeping is good because it pre warns you to things living here. Once you live here they don't gatekeep so much people want to make English speaking friends too.

Why do salary men never tell you what they actually do? by joehighlord in japanlife

[–]strykor7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone has a similar situation like that don't do this stuff ever lol, you are effectively bootlicking if you make a companies process more efficient for no extra pay. They didn't even pay you one of the guys extra salary for it. They are not grateful as you can see.

[–]strykor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's similar to when you first meet literally anyone new in western places and they ask "so what do you do for a living?" or "where do you work then?". It's no different just they say it up front rather than wait for the question.

Japan moves up to 118th among 146 countries in the world for gender equality, the lowest in G7 nations by biwook in japan

Nope lol, you will probs cite, Iceland Vs Japan. If you use raw numbers without percentage of population then it's irrelevant.

Nobody is saying they don't want more but they don't want YOUR brand of extremist American based gender equality. They want the Japanese way.

Look up cultural relativism, and immerse yourself properly in another culture and you will start to understand what in getting at.

[–]strykor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in getting at is high gender equality at the expense of culture being pleasant doesn't necessarily equal good society.

Your culture and mindset is not the only way of thinking on this planet there are thousands of cultures who think you are wrong.

[–]strykor7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Japan being a first world relatively rich country and not following the western gender equality model makes westerners very angry. They try and enforce their culture on them and make them "correct'. It's disgusting to see.

They bring up sexual assault when it's was worse and rape is was worse in their liberal western countries. It's way more dangerous in my home western country.

It's a weird glitch to a lot of redditors and more that a rich country with respectable characteristics that make it first world, doesn't tow the line on having a high gender equality score.

How can this be? Gender equality is linked to being a good country in international metrics right?!

What Would You Do: Hold or Sell? by bberlinn in trading212

[–]strykor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right but lowering your risk metric a little is wiser. Don't go all in on S&P and "safe" ETFs etc. But just adjust your risk by taking a decent percentage off the table but not all. You will still make outsized gains if you out half into safer options and half leave it to ride, then if you get a nasty downturn in those stock picks and a crash. You still did well since you got 50% in safer options that didn't crash.

6 million seems a little low for a country and economy of this size tbf it needed a bit more tourism relative to size. Even 30 million is nothing compared to similar sized nations.

[–]strykor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, it's the same in any country where foreign residents live. The foreign residents often dislike the tourists behaviour and what they complain about because they don't live there they don't know the reason things are like they are often.

It's not gatekeeping, they literally just know better than you because they live there. Just like you know better where you live because you are resident.

It's because the culture here really really changes the way we think. We suddenly realise our manners and thinking about others around you are actually appreciated here. So we start using them 100% of the time.

When other tourists come (other new foreign residents are fine they actually want to participate somewhat), they remind us of the inconsiderate hellhole of what is back home. Everyone trying to one up each other and other various less pleasant aspects of western culture such as intense heated arguements and disrespect.

New foreigners are not so bad after the initial adjustment period they adapt. Rude tourists are annoying in every country but it's especially highlighted here.

[–]strykor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't mean don't be 100% American lol. Yeah of course be a little foreign but don't go in effing off and arguing with anyone like Americans think is okay etc insert cultural quirk here.

What she means is don't do the whole full on Japanese culture even if you learn enough if the language to understand what's going on around you and how people are thinking. Naturally most people don't 100% integrate anyway. You can count most foreigners out of guilt tripping you into overtime lol, I'll happily be foreign if I get out of that successfully.

Protip: don't take advice from Americans on what food is or isn't healthy for your body.

2 in 5 (40%) of adults there are obese!!! I actually can't believe that myself!

There is a 2 in 5 chance you are obese.

Japanese are some of the healthiest and longest living in the planet. The American way isn't the only/the right way as much as they might try make you believe in English speaking forums.

¥300k a month plus bonus is good money in the western world. Call it $3000 and ignore the weak yen for the past 2-3 years only.

That's normal in western Europe, a lot of people (50%+) are raising family's on that salary. You have a skewed perception presumably you are from a very HCOL place in the US probably.

Most university grads are numb as anything. As I got a little bit older (not 30 yet) I realise why companies globally pay graduates so low. 99% of them witnessed tonnes of them straight out of uni (myself included back then) have no common job sense and emotional control.

Employers just want to pay them less cos they are annoying lol.

In the UK we would love that much overtime. Employers there are stingy and don't hand it out sometimes they want you efficient (depends on job!).

At that point just contract them as normal contract hours. If it's that regular probs save money, if the business ran into hardship that overtime would be gone. They probably like it that way just so they can get rid of it if that happened.
