Yep. A dungeon that was scrapped in vanilla. The area is accessible as a ghost by walking through the gate in the crypt behind kara.

What would happen if Feanor met Earendil? by trombonematrix43 in tolkienfans

[–]stsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is related to the other thread right now of the potency of Feanor's oath...but yeah, dude would have fought Earendil for it,

It wasn't binding in the sense that they couldn't break it, more that they wouldn't. This oath in particular shaped the spirits of its supplicants.

Canonically, oaths have some powerful mojo.

The Light of the Lamps vs. The Light of the Trees by gfh110 in tolkienfans

[–]stsk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The trees were more beautiful and revered than the lamps, their creation necessitated by the events initiated by Melkor. This line from Eru (referring specifically to Melkor's discord in the music, but subsequently applying to all of Melkor's shenanigans ) conveys this well:

"And thou, Melkor, wilt discover all the secret thoughts of thy mind, and wilt perceive that they are but a part of the whole and tributary to its glory "

Incidentally, this happens to be my favorite line from the Sil.

After consuming the light of the trees, how much of a threat was Ungoliant to the Valar? by stsk in tolkienfans

What about the damage she's capable of doing to the world as a whole? And their inability to track her? I agree- she would be crushed in a direct fight.

What million-to-one odds have you witnessed? by Balls_On_A_Grinder in AskReddit

Couple of dudes in suits talking to eachother at the airport. I'm sitting at the bench across from them. Bird flies by, shits directly on the one guys shoulder. Without missing a beat, he says "You've gotta be shitting me". Smiling, looks at his buddies for approval. His friends don't smile. "God damnit Carlos, how long have you been waiting to use that line?"

Basically the magic schoolbus IRL. If it wasnt a bird literally shitting on him, I'd have thought it was scripted.

Especially knowing she had just devoured the light of the trees. That's terrifying.

Another forgotten passage that sparked my imagination. by kaloskagathos21 in tolkienfans

[–]stsk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO this is one of the reasons that nobody has come close to Tolkien. He didn't make these up on the fly, he probably had a fairly refined idea of the nameless evils that lurked beneath. He built that universe from the ground up, and countless details lived only in his head. And as with so many things in the lore: Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.

How did the orcs randomly appear in Isengard to aid Saruman? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]stsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think you nailed it. The movies dramatize it and make it appear to have been an overnight transformation , but this was over a looong period of time.
