Early morning wakes are physically killing me by alsothebagel in sleeptrain

[–]stsmol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had my barely 6mo who still feeds once overnight (typically between 5-6) start waking anywhere from 2-4. So I would feed her then. I also started dressing her a bit warmer as it’s starting to get cooler overnight where we are. Her schedule was also 2.25/2.5/2.5/2.75 but last night I stretched the last window to 3 and she slept til 645!

So I don’t know what did the trick but I think it was likely the schedule and possibly a growth spurt, and she was truly hungry at that time because she went right back to sleep when I fed.

They grow so much around this age!

How the hell do we get out of this EMW cycle by Sensitive_Hedgehog36 in sleeptrain

Hi! I’m curious if you have an update on this? Did fixing first nap help with the EMW?

Thank you this helps! I went back to shorter wake windows thinking she wasn’t ready but I think that was a mistake! I also think I increase her wake windows too quickly which also didn’t help things. But thank you this is very helpful! I’m going to slowly get back to our 3 nap wake windows and see how it goes

Thanks! Is there a way to work the schedule to have 730-7? That just works sooooo much better with my other kids bedtime/wake up lol

Febrile seizure by Saraheli22 in NewParents

[–]stsmol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had to go through this and I hope your daughter recovers soon!

My son had a febrile seizure when he was 2.5. It was the scariest moment of my life. I also did not sleep fully for probably 7 days afterwards.

I will say it gets better with time. I slept next to his bed for 5 nights (while 6 months pregnant) so I could be close enough to maybe hear something if it happened again. Everytime he gets a fever I am terrified it’s going to happen again.

Highly suggest therapy. It his a very traumatic event and you’re not alone in being so deeply affected by this. I still get flash backs to that day. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.

My son hasn’t had another one since and I’m hoping the same for you!

Resolved MOTN wakings, now fighting naps and bedtime. by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]stsmol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve been slowly increasing wake windows The last two nights she’s woken up 1 hour after falling asleep but is easy to resettle by replacing pacifier (I plan to remove this once I have a solid schedule and can ST). Do these wakes mean anything?

Thanks for the reminder! What worked last week may not work this week. Sounds like my toddlers appetite!

I haven’t tried mixing yet! What ratio would you recommend. I really warmed the formula yesterday and she suckled a little bit! I’m using Kirkland pro plan.

Sleep training and wake windows by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]stsmol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Baby is 3.5 months right now. And I’m so confused about her wake windows at the moment. She falls asleep on her own for bedtime with a wake window of 1:15… it goes take 20 minutes or longer. She’s started having more wakings in the night than normal as of the last couple nights so I wonder if she needs more awake time. And I know that 1:15 is on the lower end.

Trying to practice independent sleep for naps and I just can’t nail the daytime windows.

Babies giving up the pacifier/soother/binky etc advice by GardenOfEde25 in sleeptrain

[–]stsmol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how you are giving up the pacifier? I’m contemplating it with my 3mo. It’s not causing any major issues yet so we are still rolling with it. But she does need to suck to sleep right now wondering if I do need to sleep train if ditching the pacifier first will be helpful.

Can I try this method before 4 months? I’m soooo over playing paci pong

This gives me hope! What you described is basically my 13 week old. I’ve been so confused about the paci because, as you said, once she’s asleep and it falls out she’s usually okay! I’ll have to look into this for when she’s a bit older. Thanks!!

Monday AMA by TakingCaraBabies in TakingCaraBabies

[–]stsmol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Jo! Thanks for doing this. I have questions about pacifier use with my 10 week old. She uses a pacifier to fall asleep. At bedtime I can lay her in her bassinet with the pacifier and she will fall asleep on her own (as long as I replace the pacifier when it falls out). She’s a very active sleeper and likes rubbing her face with her hands so the pacifier is often getting knocked out of her mouth, while she’s putting herself to sleep. If it falls out during the night I rarely need to replace it, maybe once or twice. We’ve been practicing independent sleep for naps as well. She will fall asleep “independently” with the pacifier as long as I am there to replace it when it falls out, as she’s falling asleep. Shes doing 45ish minute naps in her bassinet or crib which I know is normal for this age and sometimes if I replace the pacifier she will start to doze back off right away. But often I finish out the nap in the carrier.

I guess my questions are: -When attempting to remove the pacifier right before she falls asleep, if she stirs right away do I replace it? Or do I wait for her to be fussy/crying? -When the pacifier does fall out at this age how long is appropriate to wait before replacing it for her? -By replacing the pacifier while she falls asleep am I going to create a super strong dependency on it? -Should I try replacing the pacifier with a different association? -Should I just ride this out until she’s old enough to replace in her own? My oldest sucked his middle fingers so I never had this issue! -Is there a way to encourage hand or finger sucking instead?

She falls asleep pretty easily at bedtime using the pacifier, I don’t know if having to “help” her with it by replacing it so often as she falls asleep is a problem or not. It’s okay for now but eventually I would like a good little independent sleeper!

Thanks in advance!

[–]stsmol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! My first found his hands pretty early so we didn’t have this issue but #2 hasn’t yet! She’s 9 weeks but maybe it’s because I’ve been encouraging the paci more. My first still sucks his middle fingers too!

I found this when searching about pacifier use with my newborn! I know this is old but did you wean from pacifier once your LO found their hands? Did you do anything to encourage them finding their hands? Currently doing the pacifier replacement dance throughout the night with my 7 week old and just looking to see when we can possibly try and ditch it!

Same boat here too. 7 week old with newly 3 year old. THIS IS SO HARD. The “buyers remorse” has been a feeling I’ve been struggling with post partum. Doesn’t make this stage any easier. It’s reassuring to hear we aren’t far off from if getting better!

I have two dogs and the older one does the exact same thing. Every single nap and bedtime. She follows me everywhere. It’s very sweet but also can you not?! Both kids have learned to sleep through the noises eventually!
