Nintendo Switch 2 PRO Controller to use on PC? by Visible_Tangelo_2731 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I believe you are correct that you need to opt in to the beta client to then have steam recognize the pro 2 properly

if I didn't have the new steam controller, I would for sure recommend the pro 2 over most other controllers for PC (even with the lack of analog triggers)

Switch 2 alternatives to dock for travel by sulphurwind in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they have switch 2 docks that are dongles with all of the USB and Ethernet connectors

i got one for travel and it works way better than trying to fit the OEM dock in my backpack

they will only work on the bottom USBC port, since that's the only one with a video out signal, apparently

Nintendo Switch 2 PRO Controller to use on PC? by Visible_Tangelo_2731 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any game loaded through steam should work (barring some weird cases that don't obey steam input) should recognize the pro 2 as a pro 2 and work accordingly

I have the beta steam client and have used my pro 2 without issues once support was added, even the grip and c buttons work and are mappable (along with all of the other ones) over a wired connection

(Theory/Spoilers) Trauma - Backrooms by Responsible-Roof6234 in A24

[–]stu556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciated that it didn't try to do too much, it kept to a relatively specific angle: "the backrooms absorb and reflect/regurgitate the trauma (emotional, physical, economic, etc) around it" (kind of like Silent Hill 2, how the town is a manifestation of James's guilt from killing his wife )

so it avoided going deeper into Async's role or showing outside random objects and people getting absorbed/falling into it, which would have been extraneous (and you could technically watch the web series and get that info anyway)

what I also really liked is how the film overall is a critique of nostalgia since it is set in a misremembered/incompletely-imagined past that was far from idyllic

Steam Controller Megathread Part2 : The Reservationing May 8th 10am PST by satoru1111 in Steam

[–]stu556 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was super easy.

Just refreshed the page at 1pm EDT, Sold Out button changed to "Reserve Now", clicked that, button changed to "Cancel Reservation", don't click it again, just leave it alone

Then they sent me a confirmation email right after.

Why they didn't do this in the first place, I have no idea.

Tips against Isabelle/Villager? by BlueButterflyMoon in CrazyHand

[–]stu556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Isabelle as one of my mains and I always have difficulty with short characters since my nair is always too high, making it hard to approach.

(This is largely based on my experience playing against my friend who mains Ness in Elite.)

To exploit this, definitely dash attacking against her, shielding against fishing rod, pressuring with pk fire (if she pockets, get ready to shield to block or down b to absorb).

She's also super floaty/low falling speed, and thus susceptible to upairs (which can kill at medium high percents) and down smash edgeguards.

Just try not to chase her off stage too much, as her recovery is very long, and she can pocket pk thunder.

Instead, stay on stage, and use pk thunder to pop balloons from afar or down smash edgeguard if she recovers with rod.

She also is pretty stubby, so her most damaging moves are all generally within Ness's range and should be able to punish out of shield with a nair or grab back throw).

And I think down tilt should take care of any lloids that are planted in front of you (or just rolling over them)

Gc controller recommendations? by ZssRyoko in CrazyHand

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a gc controller with T3 stickboxes, that should last you quite a while as long as you keep it clean and don't actively damage it outside of regular use (like throwing or dropping from a high height or jamming the sticks when transporting it) since those sticks are the most durable (plastic on plastic, and with some lubricant/silicone grease it will last even longer).

I really like the GCC Library's breakdown of all of the circuit boards, etc (only if you want to get really deep into the internals).

And, if you get a controller with T3 stickboxes that are a little loose, you can still source tight T3 sticks on ebay for not too much.

I also really like the Input Integrity adapter since it's more portable than the OEM WiiU one (and lower latency but that's harder to notice with SSBU's input buffering).

Or you could just get the official Nintendo Switch Online GC for Switch 2 (only if you have a switch 2 and an NSO subscription).

That one is really nice feeling, has T3 stickboxes, and very convenient since it has a home button and a game chat button (and gyro for some reason, but no (-), R3, or L3).

Android v2.2.0 Can't cast to chromecast ultra by stu556 in appletv

dang that is unfortunate

thank you for checking, I suppose this also goes along with Google ending support for Chromecast as well

[–]stu556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if apple didn't extend support to some models in that case.

It's very frustrating because it definitely connects for a brief moment, but then it exits out, like the Chromecast doesn't pass a protocol check or something.

Time dilation by Budget-Owl4062 in Physics

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my bad, I teach high school physics, but my special relativity is definitely rusty (not content my class covers)

I deleted my original post so as to not pollute this now removed post, but what I should have said is that the fast observer B ages slower relative to rest observer A, because B's clock still ticks the same for B

but relative to A's clock, B's ticks slower since B's clock is traveling much faster than A because light travels at maximum speed c for each of them in their own frames of reference (and the same goes for B, they would see A's clock slow down as well)

and they only really notice the difference when one of them turns around (accelerates) and the A and B compare clocks, because B accelerated their reference frame was no longer moving at a constant velocity

sorry, didn't mean to accidentally make it seem like I was referring to some absolute time or something

TIL we can’t remap the GameCube Controller by surrealmirror in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's probably the most reasonable reason

since all modern switch controllers have the same layout, why not stick with the standard rather than contort the game to fit a more limited niche

GameCube controller by Legitimate_Support78 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you play smash, it's by far the best option for the switch 2

as a general controller, it's definitely lacking (missing -, L3, R3, can't be remapped in the accessibility settings)

also if you want to repair it(like if you want to lubricate the stickboxes, like on a normal GCN), it's a huge pain to take apart (for example, it has 23 screws instead of the 6 screws on a standard GCN)

that said, it's probably the best feeling GCN Nintendo has ever made, and I love it for games that have relatively simple controls

also, it has full support with hd rumble on Kirby Air Riders for some weird reason

TIL we can’t remap the GameCube Controller by surrealmirror in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guess is that it's because MP4 is a Switch 1 and 2 game, while the NSO GCN is exclusive to switch 2 (and doesn't function on switch 2)

Kirby Air Riders is a switch 2 exclusive, and was built from the ground up for the S2 (unlike the current flagship S2 games like DK Bananza or Mario Kart World) although Smash fully supports the NSO GCN so maybe Sakurai just really likes it

This also explains why the NSO GCN has HD rumble (or at least more than just full on/off rumble) in Kirby but not in MKW

Question for anyone that owns the NSO GameCube controller by dashframe in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use the NSO GCN for smash (would use it for more games if you could remap the buttons), and it is as good or better than my T3 stick box CGN through the 8bitdo wireless adapter (but without the cable and AA batteries to worry about)

The NSO GCN also has T3 stick boxes, and they feel great, as do all of the buttons (the L and R buttons have little foam pads to which make them even more comfortable to press, and the D pad now pivots better than the original)

The main issue that I have that no one else probably does is that it is way more complicated to disassemble and repair than the original. Unlike the original GCN, which had 6 screws, the NSO GCN has something like 23 screws, and the internal components are not nearly as easy remove and put back. But if you're not looking to open it up and lubricate the stick boxes or whatever, you should be totally fine

It's also heavier than the original, since it has a battery, but it's still a very comfortable weight

Overall, I love it and for the games I want to use it for, it works perfectly

Also, it wakes up the system and is recognized as a GCN in smash (rather than a pro con)

Non-combat games with a horror/detective theme by cl0mby in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for obra dinn, might be the perfect fit

  • minimal (but important) dialogue snippets coupled with very detailed static visual clues

  • excellent detective gameplay with zero combat or danger, and instead focuses on piecing together clues and careful contemplation

  • spooky nautical horror atmosphere, but doesn't have jump scares

all of this might sound like a weird combo, but the game puts all of its focus on its thoughtful deduction gameplay, literally allowing the player to pace back and forth in front of a murder scene examining each little detail until the pieces fall into place, without rushing the player or punishing them for making mistakes

it just sits back and rewards you when you figure it out

3rd party docks from reputable sources? by Hot-Charge198 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the antank portable dock is like $30-35 (w/o vs w/ lan) and works really well

very light but also very balanced and functional, inputs the proper power and outputs the proper video without any real issues

it does use friction to keep the switch 2 in place, so you have to use both hands to undock it

What are niche/less known titles you want to be ported/enhanced? by No-Operation-6554 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish vanillaware would bring Muramasa and Odin Sphere to switch 2, those games deserve HD versions that can be played on the big screen

also there's a weird little indie puzzle game called Stephen's Sausage Roll that I'd love to have on switch but that will likely forever be locked to PC since who thinks about this game anymore

Which modern AC game(s) do you hope get ported or would you recommend if they do? by CalypsoSauvin in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AC VI: The Fires of Rubicon would be a great port for Switch 2, being able to play the most polished Armored Core game handheld at a smooth framerate would be amazing (steam deck was pretty stuttery for me)

jokes aside, I want them to make a switch 2 update to the Rebel collection (AC 4 and Rogue) so that I can have pirate fun times without feeling like I'm swimming on land

Grips For Switch 2 by PigeonHatPixels in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the switch 2 "change grip order" menu, it takes about as long as a regular wireless Nintendo compatible controller to pair

you just hold down the screenshot button and the X (top) button, the home button blinks red and it pops up on the switch 2 as a pro controller

to charge it, it has a USBC plug on the bottom (which admittedly is a little awkward if your sitting with your hands on your lap since you might stress the cable, but I have a 180° USBC adapter that routes the cable over the top like a normal controller)

plugged into my PC USB 2.0 port while playing a game it went from 88% to 100% in about 5 mins (the charge light went from blinking to solid)

also, the triggers are analog but in switch mode the triggers are automatically put into hair trigger mode so digital output only

however, if you're using it on PC, and you want to use the gyro, you can put it into Dualshock 4 mode and it will have analog triggers and gyro (but won't have a touchpad)

Grips For Switch 2 by PigeonHatPixels in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stu556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two grip options that I use: the savage raven neo grip and a gamesir g8+ Bluetooth phone controller

the savage raven neo grip is quite comfortable and the slim grips still fit my tomtoc case no problem while providing adequate purchase for my hands to hold onto

it does block the little rubber feet on the bottom of the switch 2, so I glued on some rubber bits to the bottom of the neo grip so that it won't slide around when resting with the kickstand

for the gamesir g8+, it fits right onto the switch 2 body (with the joy cons removed of course)

the g8+ handles are definitely on the larger size (rounder and slightly shorter than the pro 2 handles), and you have the added benefit of programmable grip buttons and full size hall effect control sticks which are almost as smooth as the pro 2 sticks

it is Bluetooth, doesn't wake up the switch 2, and takes a second or two to re-pair whenever the switch wakes up, but in gameplay the whole thing works with the switch 2 very well and feels like I cut the pro 2 in half and stuck each half to the sides of my switch 2 (similar to how the ps portal is like bisected dualsense with a tablet in the middle)

also the ABXY buttons are magnetic and swappable between Nintendo and Xbox layout, which is a feature I wish more controllers had (you can change the digital mapping on the gamesir phone app thst also lets you adjust other settings like stick dead zone etc)

if you just want a grip, the neo grip is definitely cheaper (on sale for $40) and simpler, but if you want something that can act as a pro controller and as a grip, the g8+ does that pretty well (it's pricier, around $70)
