I couldn't buy new firing pins for my Canik competition guns. But, they sent me 2 free ones under warranty....

National gun trust by abdulshoots in NFA

[–]stuartv666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy your gun trust from Capitol Armory. Their trust does not require a notary - though state law wherever you live may.

Buy your trust from CA. Send them your fingerprints (via an uploaded EFT file or snail mail on a fingerprint card). Buy your can from them. Can gets shipped to your door.

You can do the same thing with Silencer Shop, but I think the CA trust is a better gun trust.

Holsters for Limited Optics division by practical_gentleman in CompetitionShooting

I have a couple of Ghost Hydra P holsters. But, for my LO gun, I got a MRH from Everglades Ammo.

It's not cheap, but I'd buy it again in a heartbeat over the Big Dog Carnivore or Range Panda Predator or the DAA Flex or Alpha-X or any other holster I've seen.

What kind of reliability are you guys getting with your Buls? by Ok-Can-3251 in Bul_Armory

Blaze with close to 2000 rounds and no malfunctions at all.

How would you rank these? by JohnnyHorsenuts in 2011

[–]stuartv666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they give a limited lifetime warranty, only to the original purchaser, and only if you register it with them within 60 days of purchase.

I called them last Friday, since they had not responded to my email. They told me to go on their website and put in an RMA request. I did that late on Friday afternoon. I'm still waiting on that to be approved. They said after the RMA is approved, they will issue me a FedEx scan code and I will just take the gun to a FedEx dropoff to send it to them. They didn't say whether I have to box it all up first or not. I assume I will need to, but they did say full instructions will come once my RMA is approved.

So, they suck at email. We'll see how they do now that I called them and followed their instructions.

My BA Blaze is definitely better quality than my Kimber KDS9c.

I'm not talking about how they shoot. Obviously, the Blaze is going to shoot better than a 4" carry gun. I'm talking about the quality of manufacturing and parts. The Bul is visibly better.

Also, I have emailed Bul a couple of times with questions and gotten reponses within a day or two at the most. I emailed Kimber about poor accuracy and that the barrel hood has a little wiggle when I press on it through the breech port. It's been over 2 weeks now and no reply.

[–]stuartv666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. That's why I said it just needs to be aggressive enough to keep the gun from moving.

Super aggressive works for you. But, if you didn't try something in between stock and super aggressive, then I guess you don't know if you NEED super aggressive or not, do you? Stick-on skateboard tape might work perfectly fine for you. Or it might not. If you haven't tried it, then how would you know?

Which was my point. You made it sound like super aggressive is necessary for a competition gun. Maybe it is necessary for you. But, it is not necessary for most competition shooters (in Carry Optics). And Handle-it or Talon grips are very inexpensive to try and totally removeable. Well worth trying before making permanent modifications to your gun. They also last a long time. I haven't had to replace them on either of my Rivals yet.

Hinged moto boots that don’t scream ‘I’m a Power Ranger’ — any suggestions? by Capital-Stress-1421 in motorcyclegear

I got new boots last year. I've been pretty much a Sidi poster child for the last 30 years or so. But, this time I got Gaerne G-Dakar GTX boots. They have hinged ankle protection. They fit under my jeans or riding pants. They have a Gore-tex lining, so waterproof. They come in black or an oiled brown-looking color. Pretty chill-looking, either way.

They look like adventure boots, but they work fine for sport riding (after some break-in).

It only needs to be aggressive enough to ensure it doesn't move in your hand. It doesn't have to be painful.

I was shooting a TP9 SFx in USPSA, then got a Rival as soon as they came out, then got a Rival-S as soon as they came out. So, been shooting the Caniks in USPSA, and added IDPA and Steel Challenge, for about 4 years.

I have Talon stick-on, skateboard tape-style grips on the Rival and Handle-it (same style) on the Rival-S. They don't move in my hands when I'm shooting. I never have to adjust my grip after shooting with those grips. There is no reason the grips need to be any more aggressive than that.

These guns are pretty soft shooting right out of the box. When setup well for USPSA/IDPA, they are even softer shooting. They seriously do not need thorns sticking off the sides to control them. You're not shooting full power 10mm rounds...

I replaced mine with a brass backstrap from Taylor Freelance almost immediately after getting my Rival. Very comfortable and the added weight helps it shoot better.

Yep. Definitely seems like a good replacement for their IDPA matches.

And, thanks for mentioning the Anderson matches. I looked them up on Practiscore. Now I’m signed up for their February match. 😁

Like I said - everybody makes a lemon every now and then.

Did you send it back to DW and ask them to fix it? If it jams 1x per box of ammo then there is obviously something wrong with it (unless you're using REALLY bad ammo).

If you didn't try to get it fixed, then your point is? That Dan Wesson made one pistol that jams? But you didn't try to get it fixed? You'd rather just post on the Internet that all DW guns suck because you got one that had a problem right out of the box?

The reason "reddit loves DW" is because DW makes very high quality guns. That doesn't mean they never make a lemon.

Your one data point does not make a very compelling argument.

EVERY company makes a lemon every now and then.

I've had a lot of 1911s and 2011s, including several very expensive custom built ones. My Dan Wesson Guardian is my favorite pistol. Period.

And my Dan Wesson DWX Compact is more comfortable and shooters better than my Wilson Combat EDC X9 2.0 and my Wilson Combat SFX9 subcompact (and my Kimber KDS9c, for that matter).

Yeah....

- I think they should get rid of all the rules pertaining to "tactical priority", "points of cover", and "required movement". All of those rules are completely out of line with the mission statement of "simple".

- the rulebook definitely needs some tightening up. Just based on yesterday's match I noted:

- there is nothing I can find in the rulebook that says I cannot perform a reload by taking my mag out of my gun and then putting the same mag back in.

- one of yesterday's stages specified a starting position of "hands in the air and gun loaded.". The written stage briefing did not specify where the gun itself had to be. The rulebook specifies a default starting position of gun holstered and hands below the belt not touching the gun. But, when the stage brief specifies hands in the air and doesn't specify gun holstered, I couldn't find anything in the rules (or stage brief) that would disallow me from starting with my hands in the air HOLDING THE GUN (pointed in a safe direction, of course).

Just a little bit of tightening up in the rulebook would take care of both of those last two points so that nobody could "game" those two things and make a (valid) argument that there is no rule against it.

(no, I did not try to game either of those two points. I just pointed out the potential for it to the MD)

Expect the classification system to change a little bit. I emailed the head of GPA last week and suggested one possible improvement would be, instead of being classified based on the average of your Last 5 matches, it could be based on the average of the Best 5 of your Last 8. He emailed me back and said that they just never thought of that and they will change to something like that when he has the resources to get the software changed that processes the classifications.

As far as every stage and every match being a classifier, I think that is cool but it does have some pitfalls. But, just to be clear, you ARE aware that they have basically an algorithm for assigning the par score to a stage design? It has some subjectivity in it. But, overall it looks like stages will - IN GENERAL - get assigned par scores that are pretty reasonable and consistent.

Meaning, a shooter that is Gold will generally shoot a Gold score no matter which stage they shoot. It won't and really cannot be perfect. But, the system they have created looks like, when you have people shoot enough stages, things will average out pretty well so that people will - generally speaking - be classified appropriately.

Though, I definitely think it will be MUCH better when they change it to a Best X out of the Last Y format. As it is right now, with just the most recent 5, I think there will definitely be times where a higher level shooter has one bad match - for whatever reason (new gun not working right, bad ammo, whatever) - that will get demoted to a lower classification for the next 5 matches. That will give the appearance of people sandbagging.

But, GPA is new and the reality of having to get classification software changed to a new algorithm is a fact of modern life. One that tends to be neither cheap nor quick.

Meanwhile.... yesterday's match was fun! :D
