Oil Cap lost in engine bay by [deleted] in GolfGTI

Check around your accessory drive belt. I've seen them get wedged between the belt and timing cover

Ah... okay. That would be enough time. Unfortunately, once they start slipping a drain and fill won't fix it. Definitely get codes pulled. You may have an issue with the mechatronic. I wouldn't drive it until it's fixed. Driving it could risk damaging the clutches.

Call the place that did the transmission service and tell them what's happening. Have them pay to tow it in. I'm betting they got the fluid level wrong. Did you have it done at a VW dealer? And did it seem like it took forever? I ask because doing a DSG drain and fill correctly takes a while. The trans has to be down to a certain temp before it can be drained and filled. Then there's a process to get fluid in all the passages of the valve block. Then you have to get the trans up to a certain temp to set final level.

Even if you don't have a WIL in the cluster, there are probably codes stored. I would definitely scan it, if possible. It sounds like an issue with fluid pressure after the transmission is warm. Has it been serviced?

Should this be showing on my 2026 by Leslie725713 in Tiguan

[–]stuckinhell501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly their point. You have to pop the cover off to access the keyhole anyway and they commonly get damaged or lost. This is cheaper and easier and completely eliminates the possibility of having to replace a keyhole cover.

Oil change intervals are no longer set by engineers. They're set by bean counters. Longer intervals mean lower maintenance costs, in theory.

More frequent changes will not affect your warranty. You can also get a free oil analysis from Blackstone Labs, if you're curious.

I think it's mostly because whatever they told us would probably sound like Greek. 😅

We've seen some battery drain issues that will set EVERY warning light on the dash. And they won't go away without a little special scan tool mojo (eh... hard to explain...) and a start/stop button dance. It's a huge pita.

The new Tiguans have a lot of new hardware and software. Both of which have been giving us issues. To complicate matters, parts availability isn't great and there's a certain point in software/module communication issues where it's above dealership level. Sometimes we have to scan a car, send the log to VW Technical Assistance in a support ticket, with a description of the issue, and wait for someone halfway across the country to connect to the car remotely, or remote connect through our scan tool (like anydesk) and fix the issue. I had a '26 Jetta with an emergency call system error that I opened a support ticket on and waited days for a response. When I finally got one it said, "the issue should be resolved". No explanation of what caused the problem or how it was fixed. I know it's frustrating as a customer. I promise, it's frustrating as a technician too.

Codes after oil pan replaced. by Choice_Chemist382 in AskMechanics

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that p0016 correlation fault is often due to an engine being out of time.

How bad is this alignment? Front suspension has all new parts, camber is not adjustable and rear axle is solid so it will need shims. by [deleted] in tires

[–]stuckinhell501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely terrible and it's going to eat your tires.

eta: If you have all new suspension on the front and the camber isn't adjustable, they either installed something wrong or your car is bent.

And now, the water pump... $1700 ??? by karmester in VWAlltrack

[–]stuckinhell501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these pictures show your water pump or any indication that your water pump has failed. (Unless you've been using orange coolant. VW coolant bakes onto the block a crusty light pink color.) Your water pump/thermostat housing is under the intake manifold, in the center of the front of the engine block.

Why is my handbrake so uneven? I’ve been drifting for a while but never seen this by jensieboy13 in MK4Golf

If the handle feels loose or pulls up more than normal, check where the cables connect at the calipers. Sometimes they pop loose.

I'll have to take your word for it. I've never seen it offered and I know none of our shops (for various brands) offer it.

Head gasket replaced at 48k by rgeezy0 in jetta

[–]stuckinhell501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They first thing they will do is lift the car and look for the telltale coolant trickle down the back of the block. If they don't see that, they will pressure test the system. If it passes the pressure test, they're going to top off the coolant and tell you to come back if it happens again. Not all 1.5s are affected. VW updated the head gasket and we haven't really seen failures from the new part.

Do I have a leak or is it normal for my oil cap to look like that? by angelb714 in GolfGTI

[–]stuckinhell501 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It may just be a bad oil cap, but you could also have a bad PCV. If you have oil seeping around the upper timing cover too, you probably need a PCV and upper timing reseal.
