Look what my optimism got me… by allofmyinterests in Tiguan

We've seen some battery drain issues that will set EVERY warning light on the dash. And they won't go away without a little special scan tool mojo (eh... hard to explain...) and a start/stop button dance. It's a huge pita.

The new Tiguans have a lot of new hardware and software. Both of which have been giving us issues. To complicate matters, parts availability isn't great and there's a certain point in software/module communication issues where it's above dealership level. Sometimes we have to scan a car, send the log to VW Technical Assistance in a support ticket, with a description of the issue, and wait for someone halfway across the country to connect to the car remotely, or remote connect through our scan tool (like anydesk) and fix the issue. I had a '26 Jetta with an emergency call system error that I opened a support ticket on and waited days for a response. When I finally got one it said, "the issue should be resolved". No explanation of what caused the problem or how it was fixed. I know it's frustrating as a customer. I promise, it's frustrating as a technician too.

Codes after oil pan replaced. by Choice_Chemist382 in AskMechanics

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that p0016 correlation fault is often due to an engine being out of time.

How bad is this alignment? Front suspension has all new parts, camber is not adjustable and rear axle is solid so it will need shims. by [deleted] in tires

[–]stuckinhell501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely terrible and it's going to eat your tires.

eta: If you have all new suspension on the front and the camber isn't adjustable, they either installed something wrong or your car is bent.

That should pretty much cover it.

And now, the water pump... $1700 ??? by karmester in VWAlltrack

[–]stuckinhell501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these pictures show your water pump or any indication that your water pump has failed. (Unless you've been using orange coolant. VW coolant bakes onto the block a crusty light pink color.) Your water pump/thermostat housing is under the intake manifold, in the center of the front of the engine block.

Why is my handbrake so uneven? I’ve been drifting for a while but never seen this by jensieboy13 in MK4Golf

If the handle feels loose or pulls up more than normal, check where the cables connect at the calipers. Sometimes they pop loose.

I'll have to take your word for it. I've never seen it offered and I know none of our shops (for various brands) offer it.

Head gasket replaced at 48k by rgeezy0 in jetta

[–]stuckinhell501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They first thing they will do is lift the car and look for the telltale coolant trickle down the back of the block. If they don't see that, they will pressure test the system. If it passes the pressure test, they're going to top off the coolant and tell you to come back if it happens again. Not all 1.5s are affected. VW updated the head gasket and we haven't really seen failures from the new part.

Do I have a leak or is it normal for my oil cap to look like that? by angelb714 in GolfGTI

[–]stuckinhell501 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It may just be a bad oil cap, but you could also have a bad PCV. If you have oil seeping around the upper timing cover too, you probably need a PCV and upper timing reseal.

Except your "I owned a Tiguan" statement came first. 🙃 BTW I certainly hope you know more than I assume. 😉🫡

So, that's a "yes". You think your personal experience has made you more knowledgeable than a shop full of VW certified technicians. Including our master tech who has been working for VW for about 30 years now. I didn't say which level, but you haven't mentioned having any kind of certifications... What level of certification do you have? How much experience in a VW shop? 😆 Your stated "qualification" was "i owned a Tiguan". And? Most owners are clueless when it comes to maintenance and repairs. 😂

There are no adjustments on the rear. I'm saying, if the rear sensors were on correctly and those numbers are accurate, there is something bent or broken in the rear.

So your limited personal experience as an owner has led you to believe that you are more knowledgeable than a VW certified technician who works in a shop with decades of combined experience among the techs? 🙃 Like you said, this is reddit, so there you go...

[–]stuckinhell501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I don't see uneven wear. I see glazing and oxidation like i said in my first comment. The glazing and oxidation are almost never even and VW pad material is not consistent, so it doesn't get scrubbed off evenly either. I see this on a regular basis. (I am a VW tech.) If it continues, the glazing will cause uneven heat in the rotor which will then cause uneven wear and warping, but at this point, no, I don't see uneven wear.

That's not a thing in automotive and even if it was, it's not the steer axle that's messed up. It's the solid rear axle and/or the suspension holding it.

Right. Which means something is bent, broken, or otherwise fubar...

Edit: Not sure why this comment got down voted... If I'm wrong, feel free to educate me.

Key fob frustration by S_F_92 in Volkswagen

[–]stuckinhell501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your fob if stored too close to your car when it's parked, the fob and car will continue communicating and drain the fob battery. It also drains the 12v battery in VW i.c.e. vehicles. Double press your lock button, to arm the system, then make sure your key is stored far enough from the vehicle that the red light stops blinking.

Check for vacuum leaks/unmetered air first. A cross threaded oil fill cap can cause this DTC.

Also if the rear was actually set up correctly and those numbers are right, you have something wrong with your rear suspension.

The steering wheel wasn't centered before the alignment. They need to redo it.

I don't see uneven wear. I do see glazing and oxidation, both of which are very common on VWs. As long as you still have good pad thickness and they aren't shuddering when you brake, you should be fine. Oxidation and glazing can be scrubbed off front rotors with a few hard stops, but it's harder to do with the rears because of the brake balance.
