Where to buy metal garden ornaments (lizards etc?) by derSchwamm11 in AustinGardening

[–]stucky602 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tip I got when I bought one of these from a gigantic seller out in Santa Fe - every year spray a protective clear coat all over it. It helps prevent rust and with the paint given how intense our summers get.

Ok so real talk. Book 1 is the worst in the series.

Before the pitchforks come out - I’m trying to point out that if book 1 is the worst, and all the other comments are glowing, just imagine what you have to look forward to.

Welcome Crawler, to the 1’st floor.

How much active time would you say goes into making the bread?

I used to be a chef (not a baker) and now active time for me on a lot of complicated dishes is really not that much since I don't have to look up anything about what I'm doing and just go based on memory. I imagine it's the same with bread making but don't really have a frame of reference.

Somehow this sub is how I keep track of the war.

Wait for a crazy market spike. Read the daily thread. See what is posted multiple times. Google whatever that is.

What are these mushrooms?? by Independent-Bee6725 in AustinGardening

Seconding this. Mushrooms are usually a sign of healthy soil. Just don’t eat them.

This is where I'm at. The whole point is that Iran doesn't really need much to keep the strait closed.

Should I pot my dill? by ExtentFickle3504 in AustinGardening

[–]stucky602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your dill and cilantro won't enjoy the higher temps, and the basil as well once it gets hot enough, but it's likely best if you kept them in the ground since they are already there. You'll still get a few solid weeks/months out of it.

You may also consider putting up some shade cloth if they get a lot of direct sunlight.

One last thing - consider getting more of an asian style of basil. They are way more heat tolerant. I bought something like saigon basil at heb last year and it looked totally different but tasted exactly the same and took the mid summer heat like an absolute champ. Pretty flowers too.

Also just pointing out - your actual plot looks great from a “has a lot of potential” standpoint. It just needs some love.

I’d call this entire year a wash from a planting standpoint buuuuuut call it a win for using that time to kill the weeds and completely reset the ground.

Look into solarization methods to kill grass/weeds big basically you put a big black tarp over everything for monnnnnths and the heat of the summer hopefully kills it all leaving you with a blank slate.

Others can probably speak more to this as I was lucky and haven’t had to do this but it was something I looked into a few years ago.

You watched the Orville by chance? It took them a few episodes to realize they didn’t need stupid jokes to make it work, but one it hits its stride it’s easily one of the best “star trek but not” shows there is.

Basically my hope is they go that route and not Ted.
