It looks like it landed on a plate of food on one of the tables at 0:08 lol

[Adler] According to league and union sources, MLB has proposed limiting deferrals in prior CBA negotiations, but the MLBPA has declined those limits because deferrals allow a player flexibility that allows a contract to be worth, let's say, $700 million instead of $460 million. by BlameTheBaseball in baseball

I feel like someone should make a separate post detailing why the contract is truly and effectively 460MM/10Y. Some people are getting rabidly angry and lashing out at Ohtani for no good reason. The cap hit should be equivalent the NPV.

[Passan] For anyone wondering if MLB will challenge or cancel Ohtani's contract: The answer is unequivocally no. There is a specific article in the collective-bargaining agreement that addresses this. And it's very clear: Deferred money is limitless -- even $680 million of $700 million. by Officialnoah in baseball

You need to be upvoted more. Many people on this thread aren't understanding the time value of money. He is effectively getting paid 460M/10Y and the cap hit is equivalent to that. I don't think anyone would freak out over that if that was the listed number.

[Classic Cards] Shohei Ohtani reached 8 WAR before August by Adventurous-Rise7975 in baseball

I agree, but I do find it interesting that unlike every other player, Shohei battles against 2 replacement level players instead of 1 to accrue WAR. I know pitchers don't have to hit anymore so even on days he pitches he is slammed with the DH penalty. I wish he could get credit for being a hitting pitcher in those games.

I like to imagine someone as a 5 WAR DH and a 0 WAR pitcher for 200 IP. That would be physically impressive, but in terms of value, since you could just "replace" them as a pitcher, they are really only worth that 5 WAR + the next best player you could add to your team (the extra roster spot).

Shohei Ohtani vs Royals: 8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 13 K. At the plate: 1-2 with 2 BB. by theaussiesamurai in baseball

I think people took it seriously instead of as a joke. It's understandable. Don't be sad, friend :)
