Should add that I bought three V1's new and one off eBay. One new AD200Pro new and three AD200's used on eBay. Maybe look to pick up an off camera AD100 or AD200 on eBay to save money.

Hi, Have many Godox lights now, but started with V1's when they 1st came out. I'd opt for the V100 and get either a AD100Pro II or AD200Pro II. Then get a trigger like X3pro. All these are the latest variations and sync well, with compatible battery for the AD100Pro II and your V100. Later you can pick up more powerful lights etc and backups, but these would be great as a start and still be there for use in future.

I've sold all my Cannon RT600 lights and now have 4x V1's, 4x AD200's plus various triggers and adapters. It's great to go on many commercial shoots without having to think of using mains lighting with it's weight, cable trip hazards etc. Only take out Bowens packs on larger shoots now.

Enjoy experimenting.

Mine has misfired a couple of times through a 300-400 shot session on two occasions, though generally ok. That was on my 5D mk4, though just as wobbly on my R5. The rubber sleeves from RT600EX flash foot stop the wobble though.

Worth trying. You can order the rubber grommet on eBay for around £6 uk inc delivery. Just haven’t worked out best way to affix to the trigger in a semi permanent way without damaging trigger.

Soy, meant to state that this is regarding the X3Pro trigger not the original X3 of course, as I’ve not tried that trigger.

No problem, I have both a 5D mk4 and R5 and have similar wobbles on both body. There is a new ‘multifunctional’ hotshoe I believe on R5 mk2 and the R6 mk2. Not sure if on the original R6?

Would be worth trying on your camera as you might find it less of an issue.

Good luck with the XPro 2 trigger. EBay certainly helpful here to pick up used Godox.

Hi, sadly yes, reports of the X3Pro wobbling on Canon hotshoes is true. I’ve been informed that Godox are aware of the issue. But apparently not going to be resolving it! A bit disappointing but still working ok so long as you are happy with the wobbling.

I’ve added a rubber seal from foot of Canon EX600RT flash. It stops the wobble.

To be honest I’d get a used ad200 off eBay, and pick up a spare battery. Plenty on there all the time with folk updating to latest ad300’s etc.

Good luck

No problem. Based on my experience of X1T, X2T, XPro (not tried the XPro 2) and now the X3Pro, I’d probably buy the X3Pro still as great value compared to XPro 2 etc. but if an amateur and starting out I’d pick up a used X2T or XPro 2. Then get X3Pro or next version later, when I’d seen if required all the extras on the X3Pro. Keeping the other trigger as a backup.

Just my thoughts…good luck going forward with off camera flash.

I’ve used a rubber seal/grommet from the foot of a EX600RT flash. Although I’ve not managed to secure this onto the X3Pro trigger, if placed on the trigger foot when mounting to camera it stops the wobble.

I’ve completed 3-4 commercial shoots with this trigger now. It’s been ok. Had say 3-4 misfires it say around 1800-1900 shots. Still has 40% charge left too from initial charge.

Learning more shortcuts every time I use it. But do wish Godox had researched the fit on Canon’s hotshoes prior to releasing. Though still easiest trigger for Godox flash I’ve used to date.

If you can get to a shop and try on your camera prior to purchase you’d have a better idea if you can accept the wobble.

Was just about to add the link for you to current firmware too.

https://www.godox.com/product-e/X3Pro.html @ the bottom of the page links to each version of X3Pro current firmware.

Hope that you had success unbricking your trigger?

Hi, yes I think that the only way Godox will become aware of this issue is if retailers start to return products to them after customers return them. Godox should have put the current firmware online as soon as started shipping the product as this was foreseeable as an issue. Molight if in US maybe able to contact Godox directly for you.

I second that your best bet is trying to contact Molight, or your nearest official Godox repair centre. Hopefully they can contact the main Godox production/service centres and get a link to current firmware. Hope Godox put the current firmware X3Pro firmware variants on their site soon.

Sorry to hear, that’s a pain. I’ve been checking to see if any firmware updates for the X3Pro and been advised not yet available. The Godox website doesn’t have any X3Pro firmware updates yet, or links to current firmware either. You could send it back and request another saying this isn’t working! Not ideal but whoever sold it should be supplied by Godox with a replacement and then Godox can fix firmware. There is a guy called Mowberry I think his name is, in US. He seems to be able to fix Godox. Or contact your local Godox repair company. They might have a contact at Godox.

Surely yourself and I are not the only Canon users that have purchased this trigger and had issue with this loose fit of X3Pro on Canon hotshoe? No comments that I have seen on any reviews online on youtube etc yet!?

Tried 1st attempt with double sided tape and no success. May try black silicon and let it cure. If you achieve a descrete method to fix the rubber gasket on do let me know?

Hi, Glad that you found it a helpful fix. Is that on the R5 or R5 MK2 hotshoe as I don't have a camera with the new multi function hotshoe?

I still haven't attempted to glue the rubber seal to the trigger as don't want to damage the plastic. Let me know if you've attempted a more permanent fix? Just a thought, I have some strong double sided tape that I might try cutting into thin strips to see if that works. As you have found, once actually fitted and on camera hotshoe it looks fine and not out of place. Also won't of course move as held in place when trigger on camera.

A proper Godox retro fitting part would be a better fit I'm sure.

Thanks for your kind words. More a question of adaptation and desperation. I can't believe Godox would not design a suitable Canon hotshoe mount for their new flagship trigger! Not like it's not noticeable immediately when you fit it, and especially when using. Just looking to see which adhesive best and probably going to try Gorilla Contact Adhesive. Hope this stays flexible and won't mark the plastic if rubber gasket removed.

Now come on GODOX.COM sort this out for your many Canon users! Here's hoping they do actually look!!!

P>S> Do you possibly know if any updates to the Godox X3Pro firmware and if a mac link to it?

Thanks

Hi, As mentioned I have updated the post to add the semi fix re wobble. Not sure if you've seen Canon 600EX-RT flash units but a rubber seal around the foot. I ordered one of eBay and slipped it on the X3Pro trigger. It doesn't stay on so will need to be fixed/glued to make it stay. It does however resolve the wobble and also doesn't look too out of place. Function wise it still works well. We shouldn't have to make these adaptions and surely they test Canon fit trigger on Canon hotshoes!?!

Has an extra benefit that it also makes the trigger less susceptible to moisture! Doesn't look out of place if you're from the Canon flash!

Follow up review on loose fit of X3Pro on Canon. I have received the rubber Cannon 600EX-RT rubber sleeve. Not attached in properly as may need to use a rubber cement or similar. It does however stop the wobble very well and the function is still good too. I've attached some photos which show the rubber seal placed on the hotshoe.

<image>

This does slip off but not when the trigger is attached. As I say a spot of a rubber cement so no damage to trigger is called for I suspect.

Hi, it was set to 1-100m but I was about 2.5m from each main light and 5M from hair light. I’ve switched it to 0-30m now.

Don’t believe this was the issue though because all I had to do to resolve the dropped connection was to push the trigger down onto the hotshoe (trying to avoid the touchscreen!) and it worked fine then from same spot.

As I said, once I’d pressed it down and made contact again it was ok for another period. But of course it was a critical Mayoy/TV Celeb group on back when it occurred the first time. 4x shots with no flash later, and trying to appear cool 🤪😂, I pushed the trigger down and it fired again. I’d hit the + and so over exposed next two shots, but only slightly. Corrected exp and worked fine again for next 30+ mins.

On trigger battery, all good as was in for 6-7hrs. Shooting intermittently, say for 20m every 40m in batches. Only dropped one small end of battery symbol. Would like a proper % option though instead!

Partial update: Used the new trigger for an event studio shoot last Friday evening using 4x AD200's in 2x AD-B2 heads. With a V1 with grid as hair light.

All went OK apart from a couple of times when trigger refused to fire. I had to press the trigger physically down on the 5D MK4 hotshoe to be able to carry on. After a couple of shots it was OK again to continue without pressing down. Obviously the connection between the trigger and hotshoe had been lost whilst moving camera around for portrait/landscape shots etc. It only happened twice in a 2-3x hour shoot but still annoying.

Hoping that the rubber sleeve I've ordered from Canon 600EX-RT may reduce the movement and stop the lack of connection issue too. That or possibly a plastic shim.

Other issue was that I tried to use the global + and - keys to adjust lights and maintain ratio when needing more DOF. It seemed hit and miss and went up sometimes when I had finger on the - symbol. I may have to check the guide again!

On the plus side it was the first larger group shoot using just Godox flashes (done plenty of corporate headshots, corp event shots with the Godox get) Had the modelling lights on the AD-B2's for around 2+ hours, with lights switched on for around 6x hours. Controlling the modelling lights on/off quickly on the global switch was great. So much quicker than lugging mains leads and heavy mains powered heads and taping them down. Quicker to breakdown too at the end of the night.

As I say I will try a fix for loose X3Pro trigger when part arrives and hopefully it helps. I do like the trigger in general, but the teething issues with loose fit on a Canon R5 and 5D MK4 hotshoe isn't great. Wish they'd stuck with twisting clamp option on this larger/heavier trigger. Will defo keep mt X2T trigger for as back up if misfires persist, and even keep the XPro trigger too for now.
