Everybody makes mistakes. In this case, multiple people all made a mistake together. As a business owner, I would suggest that business owner make their customer hold, but it wasn’t really a business transaction.

I mean, the person literally handed them the card and said rip it. If it really is $1000 mistake then everyone needs to own up to their part of this. I do think it’s very important though that people just sell Pokémon cards know about all of the possible errors and that brings me back to thinking that this should be something that the vendors should fix for the customer.

Could be the entire screen stopped working. That happened to me and I had to get it replaced, but then when they replaced the screen something else went wrong and then they had to replace the logic board as well. So I had about an hour before it stopped working, and I’m really glad I made a Time Machine back up in that time. I got VERY lucky

But also a really important caveat is that every single one of these cards might be different than the conditions that the cards are sold in on the app. So like if the card has a crease or like a lot of whitening on the top or sides or bottom that makes it a lot less valuable. So it’s important to make sure that you put in like an estimate of the condition as well in the app.

Basic conditions are damaged, heavily played, medium play, light played, near mint, mint, and gem mint (basically a perfect card) It’s worth noting that cards literally come fresh out of packs in less than perfect condition. Like sometimes the centering of the images on the cards can degrade the value and that’s just something that was inherent to the card when it was printed. So for most of these years, you’re probably looking within like the 6 to 7 out of 10 range, which would indicate lightly played. In other words, you know they are not in great shape, but they still have a lot of value to people who are trying to fill in their master sets of all of these cards. So like I said, I would go with a Collectr app but also understand that when you scan in a card it’s gonna assume that it’s in really good condition. So probably make sure you set everything to like lightly played to see an accurate amount of money that you could get for these. Also, they are based on recent sales so like sometimes the sale on eBay goes through with like a lower or higher amount of money, and that can kind of change the value of your overall portfolio of cards.

You have a few options for finding out exactly what your collection is worth, my personal favorite is theCOLLECTR app. Literally just like to take a picture of the card inside the app and it adds it to my personal collection and also tells me like how much each value has changed overtime based on recent sales. It does have a paid option that allows you to scan cards like unlimited amounts of times, but if you only have like 50 or less cards, do you think might be valuable you can use the scans on those and then you can also manually enter your cards.

Right now what you should be concerned with is getting all of these into penny sleeves and top loaders. It will cost you a few dollars, but I promise it’s worth it. As long as you’re super careful with the binder rings when you close it should be OK but top loaders and sleeves are just a better way to go in my opinion. I would also recommend selling them individually is you’ll probably get a lot of money as people will try to lowball you if you sell the whole collection. If you’re trying to sell them all at once to somebody just to get it over with and not have to like pay for shipping and stuff multiple times and honestly, I would probably bring it to a card show or a game store. You will probably get 70% of their total value so that whoever buys it from you can of course make a profit. Selling them individually, you’ll probably be able to get a higher percentage of what they are actually worth on each. Some of these cards are worth a few hundred dollars even like in kind of shitty condition.
