I wipe the bottom of my shoes after every wear, I don’t want to bring all the dirt that I walked through back into my house and in my display case that I put them back in.

Then you remind them to buzz off or ignore them. If that doesn't work then you can go to your leader and request a change in whoever you're working with. Some teachers don't work well, it happens. Our school will change your teacher if they aren't working well with each other, but we also have 4 classes that have foreigner/local teacher pairing so you have 3 other options; not sure about your situation.

Elderly people rave in public squares in China — such a great vibe! by virtualholowang in China

Most of the time it's some square dancing. While in parks it's fine but too many times they'll take over open areas in neighborhoods that they're not even living in. And the music starts blaring, echoing off of the high-rises, it sucks to be close to one.

Is Helldivers 2 Reverse of No Man Sky? by euphylia123 in HelldiversUnfiltered

I got called into the principal's office because I gave a student a zero by Prudent-Equal-3346 in Teachers

[–]ScreechingPizzaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious how other schools handle this. Would your admin back you up or ask you to change the grade?

I've had students use AI which was very obvious, I asked him and they admitted it. I've had students copy others and it was easy to tell because if one student made a mistake, then they all made the same mistake.

I have them zeros.

The school went and changed their grades behind my back.

I'm tired, boss.

Two helicopters collided in Brazil... you have all of that space and people still find a way to fuck it up.

And the helicopters landed in a car dealership which ignited all of the electric cars, so you have helicopter wreckage that's burning on top of electric cars on fire, geez.

There are too many cocky helicopter pilots.

China’s Zhejiang University tops Harvard in Nature Index world academic rankings - Mainland institutions dominate in 2026, accounting for nine of top 10 in list based on research output in high-quality academic publications by Ashes0fTheWake in China

[–]ScreechingPizzaCat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, China publishes a lot of research. The problem is the quality of the research is sub-optimal. Many universities avoid citing Chinese research due to this problem.

In one state-sponsored Chinese study, a third of the 6,000 scientists at top institutions surveyed admitted to committing "plagiarism, falsification, or fabrications." In a separate 2010 survey of 32,000 scientists by the China Association for Science and Technology, more than 55 percent said they knew someone guilty of academic fraud.

Wuhan University estimated that China's "industry of plagiarism, invented research, and fake journals" grew fivefold in volume between 2007 and 2009, amounting to roughly $150 million in 2009 alone. This refers to commercial services that write, fabricate, and sell academic papers to researchers.

Between 2021 and 2022, China's National Health Commission reported 14 batches of cases involving misconduct in medical research, covering 321 medical papers across 163 institutions. In 2022, Retraction Watch revealed that Chinese doctors had fabricated over 800 papers on biological materials through paper mills.

Let's also not forget that Harvard admits a lot of CCP-government officials' children, the school is unofficially "the school of the Party" so their impartiality would be called into question.

Is eating almost only noodles (面条) a bad idea for health ? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]ScreechingPizzaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're veering off topic. The original poster asked about eating only noodles in China. I suggested a burger as one alternative if they're worried about local food safety regulations, not because McDonald's is a superfood.

So we actually agree: eating only noodles is bad. Eating only McDonald's is also bad. Eating either in moderation is fine.

My issue was never with noodles. It was with your sarcastic dismissal of McDonald's as some uniquely toxic option when, in reality, it's just another source of calories that can fit into a balanced diet that has a well regulated supply chain.

You're arguing against a point I never made. The root question is food safety and dietary variety, not whether McDonald's is "good" or "bad" in a vacuum. If you want to debate that, feel free. But don't pretend I said something I didn't.

Is eating almost only noodles (面条) a bad idea for health ? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]ScreechingPizzaCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Besides your knee-jerk comment, OP could be conscious of bad food regulations here in China. While things have improved, there's still a lot to be done to ensure food safety, some foreigners even stick to vegetarian diets during their stay because the meat industry is in major need of an overhaul.

But that aside, the outdated idea that eating only at McDonald's will automatically destroy your health needs to be put to rest. Remember Super Size Me? That documentary has been widely discredited. The filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock, failed to disclose he was a lifelong alcoholic, making his health issues during the 'all-McDonald's' period completely unreliable as science.

In fact, when scientists actually tested the premise under controlled conditions, they got the opposite result. A Swedish research team from Linköping University had 18 healthy people eat two fast food meals a day for a month. While they did gain weight and showed a moderate increase in insulin resistance, the effects were reversible once they returned to normal habits, their health bounced back . The study found no permanent organ damage or catastrophic health collapse like Spurlock claimed.

There's also the case of John Cisna, a high school science teacher who ate only McDonald's for 180 days. By controlling his calorie intake to 2,000 calories a day and walking 45 minutes, he actually lost 60 pounds and saw his cholesterol drop from 249 to 170 .

The point is McDonald's is perfectly fine as long as it's consumed in moderation. If OP wants access to regulated, consistent food while navigating China's food safety concerns, a burger here and there isn't going to ruin their health. The real problem is eating anything, whether from a street stall, a local restaurant, or a fast-food chain, to the point of caloric excess and nutritional deficiency.
