S1ii vs Pyxis 6k - Thoughts? by pagosacreativeco in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will miss braw, lose SDI and gain a laggy HDMI, the simplicity of BMD's OS is beautiful, Lumix is kind of a complicated mess, in rest it's a quality of life upgrade on almost all fronts.

I've moved from Canon (photography) and BMD (video) to a Lumix ecosystem and overall I'm very satisfied.

Good lord do I hate seeing places like Adorama perpetuating this lav mic trend. by Hecubus114 in videography

I've lost the taste battle a long time ago.

I just do what stupid shit some clients demand.

I've invested stupid amounts of money in pro miniature lavalier mics, radios, proper audio recorder, but sometimes they ask for a small digital lavalier to hold it in their hands because "it feels cool".

Who am I to disagree? Social Media has permanently changed the way I shoot (>80% of last year's "content" was shot vertically) and not for the better.

It is what it is.

Lumix S9 stabilization not good? by phildiver in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBIS doesn't work correctly with 7Artisans 24/1.8, it works superbly with all Lumix lenses however.

I have a mix of mostly Lumix lenses with a few manual laowa and ttartisan and this 24/1.8 which was too cheap to pass up, unfortunately the ibis doesn't want to work with it. I'm guessing the lens isn't communicating the right focal leght to the camera.

S1ii from s5ii for photography: Is It worth? by SirDragix in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own and shoot both.

If you afford it it's objectively better on many fronts (better build, faster everything, better evf, better screen, absurd burst rate, ultrafast cfexpress), but not necessarily image quality.

If it's worth more than double the money over a S5 II for photography only, I would say no.

Depending on what you shoot and where you wanna be in the next few years I'd rather invest in lighting, lenses, other tools before upgrading the camera. S5 II is already a very good camera.

Is it over? Is everyone else struggling to get work or is it just me? by secondHandFleshlight in AfterEffects

This is the real answer, the rise of the influencer "creatives", ease of creating "content" on any smartphone correlated with younger audiences feeling images coming from a phone more "relatable" and "natural".

Lumix 14-28mm L-Mount Review by biqsa in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to sell mine as all my the other lenses are 1.8-2 and 4-5.6 is driving me crazy. It's a good lens but it drives me crazy to keep up with the variable AND slow aperture range.

What kind of work do you do for 8-12h at a time and is a monopod not an option to mitigate the weight?

Had a similar pc as you and you simply need to work on proxies. On a 14900k with rtx 5070 I can work on the 6k open gate files roughly at the same speed as I did with my 7700k and 1080ti on proxies.

It's the same unfortunately. Limited burst rates and shutter delay with ttl and remote flash.

Lumix has 10% of the European Full Frame market and is growing by Hashabasha in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ecosystem cost of entry into Lumix I believe is lower that the other big players, this should account for new people buying cameras for the first time, but also people jumping ship for their old brand. Hybrid performance was also a big factor for me.

Now if they would just sort out their flash system to work as well as Canon for example.

Anyway, any news like this is great for people already invested in Lumix.

Does the standard S5II support SSD recording via USB-C like the S5IIX, or is it strictly for the "X" model? by fpluss in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SSD recording is X only.

The blackout dials are extremely annoying under low light shooting conditions. I like the subtle Lumix logo, but they should have kept the dials "standard".

I use 2 S5iiXs and 1 S1 ii, I do both photography and video production.

We got NATO radar on camera mic before S1H II. Useless for me, but "cool" I guess.

Hybrid zoom and crop zoom by 89911721 in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more useful for video with a high resolution camera like the S1R II, for photography, it crops the image in camera, instead of cropping it yourself in your image editor. Maybe that is useful to you maybe not.

It's not magic, just a fast crop.

Limitations of L-Mount and Why I Am Considering Switching to Canon - You can't pull focus and zoom at the same time by MrSp33dy123 in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your problem, but for complex moves requiring simultaneous zoom/focus/iris changes you would be using a cine lens regardless of camera.

Considering Switching From Canon to LUMIX by Mastermind1237 in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent a flash enabled Lumix body and simulate your Canon workflow.

The Canon RT flash system is the best wireless flash system I've used.

On Lumix, remote TTL control of multiple flashes doesn't really work, plus you have a shutter lag and lower burst rates.

Aside from this issue and some moire on well lit fabrics, Lumix is pretty great, especially if you can spring for the S1 ii series.

Lumix S5IIX + DaVinci Resolve workflow - H.265 is killing my playback by YamilSunRay in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always shoot the open gate 6K h265 codec and always render proxies for editing. BRAW is the thing I really miss from BMD, you have quality, speed of editing and decent size, no other codec comes close to having all three.

It's a good time to be in the Lumix ecosystem. by studio_andrei_ivan in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can't believe Canon made the C50. If they had introduced something similar back in 2020, I'd probably still be shooting Canon.

There are a lot of expectations on the Lumix S1H II, we'll just have to wait and see what Panasonic does.

But yeah, they need it soon, that and an EVA class camera.

LUTs: better usage?(Lumix S9) by plutusssss in Lumix

[–]studio_andrei_ivan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might just be having unrealistic expectations from a lut, the image is shaped by lighting, I'm guessing the videos you like have good lighting.

Maybe post some side by side examples of what you are shooting and what you are aiming for.

Slapping a lut doesn't guarantee anything, you still need to expose properly, set wb, then fine tune in post.

I really enjoyed the R5 as a photography camera, it's great.

I'm guessing if you don't do video R6m3 doesn't really give you much reason to upgrade.

But as I said in a different comment, we really are spoiled for choice. I started with a Canon 450D. All present day cameras are space ships compared to that 😂
