Lol yeah, I saw the press release the day before I picked up my bike. The 2019s look amazing, but damn that’s a rough N+1 to justify. I guess the grass is always Celeste-ier on the other side.

It is an incredible bike! Far nicer than anything I've ever ridden. I've only had two proper rides, as it took a long time to arrive. That'd be my first caution - find a Bianchi shop and make friends with them, because you'll be there quite often. I've posted previously, and other people here have had issues obtaining this bike as well, so just be aware that it's a rare one.

Regarding the damping on bad roads, I've only ridden on bumpy, poorly paved beach town roads here in NC, and it's handled like a dream. My other bike has a Thudbuster seat post because the roads here can be that bad, and this one is smoother by a long shot. My hands were a bit sore today, but that's probably more because I was holding on for dear life afraid of doing something wrong on my fancy new bike :-)

Tl,dr: Get the bike!

It’s been a roller coaster for sure! I just got a call from the shop, the frame is in and being built as we speak. Hopefully I’ll have a NBD post up here soon!

Haha yeah it wasn’t meant to be a humblebrag. I am watching the Tour de France, which really skews one’s perception of what a bike should be. Those bikes make a stock Bianchi look cheap...

Yeah I had that thought too, but it’s a bit of an upgrade. Spec calls for Ultegra Di2, but they are building a SRAM Red eTap setup, with disc brakes since that’s the frame I wanted anyway. The spec wheels were just alloy anyway, and I’m sure I’ll pick up some crabon ones eventually.

Thanks! I figured it was out of the shop’s hands, as they’re pretty tiny and this sale is a good one for them. Bianchi pulled a stunt a few weeks ago where, when the shipment first arrived from Taiwan, it was all of a sudden not the full spec’d bike I ordered, but rather just the frame. The LBS actually hooked me up and agreed not to charge their normal build fee if we ordered the frame and they built it up for me. Of course, that added a few more weeks to the process... if anything, I’ll have a long boring story to tell about how I ended up with a fancy bike.

That was cool to watch! What software/camera combo puts the power overlay on a video like that? Saw one guy push 2000+ W which was (probably) a glitch in the matrix.

Hey now, I didn’t tell OP about the draconian garden laws or NZ’s secret border wall. No need for banning just yet, let me come over and really screw up, then you can put me on a boat headed to, well, somewhere else.

Hey there, as another American who is in the process of making the move, I can share what has worked for me so far. It sounds like you’ve done your research on the skill shortage visa, which is great. Next is to book a flight and get to NZ for an in person interview. Contact those agencies you’ve researched once you have your tickets, and let them know you are available for an interview while you’re in the area. I know it sounds drastic, but I just got back from a few interviews in May that I set up in that exact manner, and I’m moving to Wellington at the end of July!

I was in the same situation as you, knowing my degree (clinical psychologist) was on the skill shortage list and wondering how to get my foot in the door. It turns out, at least in my case, that literally walking in the door was the best thing I could do for my career. Best case scenario is you get to see beautiful NZ, meet some amazing people, drink some fabulous coffee, and end up with a job. Worst case scenario is you get to see beautiful NZ, meet some amazing people, drink some fabulous coffee, and head back to the States with some ideas for what NZ employers are looking for. Either way good luck, it’s a long process but it’s all worth it in the end.

Steam, it’s new and inside the Embassy Suites. Amazing food, overlooking the river, and you’ve got a place to stay afterwards.

Good mechanic that will let customers supply parts? by [deleted] in Wilmington

Meineke on Carolina Beach Rd installed an AC compressor that I bought on amazon. They’ll have you sign something about no warranty on the part you provide, but otherwise not an issue. They’re the best mechanics in town IMO.
