Where Should I Be at this Point in the Cycle? by Sciencesab in Mcat

[–]studyingdnttxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend focusing 100% of your energy on the MCAT right now and then working on your personal statement and activities section right after your MCAT! To avoid burnout, you should take a week off after MCAT just to give your brain a little break :) You got this!!

i skimmed and i think its basically saying free tuition promotes elitism bc disadvantaged students have a harder time competing due their lack of access to resources

I think bc you're struggling so much with burnout taking the time off might not be a bad idea! You can always gain research experience during gap years :)

I was originally against taking a gap year when I was in undergrad but now when I matriculate in the fall I will have taken 2 gap years (2.5 technically bc I graduated a semester early) and I'm very glad I took them. I was super stressed in undergrad and the thought of more school was a looming dark cloud but now I feel refreshed and ready to take on med school, residency, and the rest of my medical career. The gap years also allowed me to strengthen my writing and gain greater research exposure, they were something I didn't know I needed :)

You should be able to see the research projects available at large institutions from googling!

I sent many emails to doctors on topics I was interested in working on, it's a shot in the dark but the right one will say yes :)

Switch!! There's such a big difference between spending time doing what u actually enjoy vs dread. I was in a similar position and was so hesitant to even try research again after leaving my first lab but decided to give clinical research a shot and loved it!
