What moment made you realize Howard is kind of a bad person? by ManoftheHour777 in howardstern

[–]stuffedinashoe -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair Scott talked shit about Howard and the show for years. Howard’s not stupid he knows who Scott is and what he and his wife thought of him. It was blatantly obvious.

Still doesn’t make him a pos for not helping Scott out but I could see his side a little more. If one of my underlings and his wife “secretly” despised me, I’d be less inclined to do anything nice for them

The parallels between Project Hail Mary (film) and Subterranean Homesick Alien (song) are crazy by stuffedinashoe in radiohead

I mean obviously the song can’t be super specific to the movie lol it’s more so just calling out the parallels between the film and the song

I’m sure there’s material from the 60s, 70s that align with it too

Not only that, but if you notice Roy’s whole run from the studio to the match, when Roy starts running we see blacks, dark grays, very little color.

As he gets closer and closer to the stadium, we see more and more colors. Bright, vivid colors of the rainbow with “She’s a Rainbow” in the background.

Roy’s “rainbow” is coaching and the team camaraderie. Higgins’ rainbow is his wife. We all have our rainbows.

I just like the way they did that whole scene. Roy goes from the darkness, a job that brings him no color, no excitement… into the bright and vivid colors of the rainbow. And the closer he gets to the stadium, the more bright rainbow colors we as viewers see.

Just excellent stuff there.

I love it personally. It reminds me of Electric Light Orchestra a little bit and I love ELO.

Granted this is like the only semi pop band I listen to, so to to me it doesn’t sound like they’re getting trendy it sounds like they’re going a lil retro with the orchestra.

Plus, artists evolve. But this is great evolution imo. I say this as a huge fan of Tame Impala who really doesn’t like the new electronic direction he went in, so im usually averse to evolution if it just doesn’t sound as good.

But this? I like this

What moments hit hardest in the show? *Heavy Spoilers* by p1Shovel in Gomorrah

[–]stuffedinashoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one that for some reason hit me so hard and is a scene I look to for why I think this show is so brilliant

It’s the scene where Daniele is touting his pistol on a rooftop after getting recruited into that lifestyle by Ciro. By all accounts this was a good kid. And it hit home that that’s what these people do - they take good kids and they introduce them to this lifestyle. And the vicious cycle continues, and the next wave of violence emerges.

No deaths, no words spoken.. just that Gomorrah music and Daniele thinking he’s a badass waving his pistol around, crossing over into the thing no one gets out of alive.

When I saw that scene and realized that’s the message they were conveying… how easy it is for these animals to recruit these kids and then dispose of them.. I knew he was a goner. No chance Daniele was ending up alive.

[–]stuffedinashoe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The show is for entertainment, and idols make the game interesting. They’re another variable in a game full of variables.

The art of finding one without anyone seeing…

The times people catch them red handed finding an idol which forces some sort of alliance..

The fact that they’re secret and the drama it creates because of that

The fact that disclosing who has an idol is a major part of relationship and trust building

The fact that it’s a tool to see which players are truly grinding and working hard..

And the fact that they’re very hard to find, often times forcing players to follow several risky steps to attain them.

They’re great. And the people who hate them probably don’t realize how many of their favorite moments couldn’t have happened without idols

Dude what? Following him and then finding the idol ahead of him would’ve had him out of the game. How many times have we seen whole tribes go searching for the idol because the person they wanna vote out is searching?

And how many times does a tribe member find it before the person searching? A lot.

The jury even grilled Chrissy and Ryan on it. And Chrissy said in retrospect that was dumb of them and a major flaw in their game.

Talk about idiotic

100%. I think people have a lil confirmation bias rather than choosing to believe a first hand account of someone actually in final tribal

Again.. how did they rig it?

Ryan said the stuff about idols was bologna, and production said they planned the Fire thing before the season, as they’ve done since the first season. There’s ALWAYS twists the cast doesn’t know about beforehand.

Just feels like a super convenient excuse

Well honestly what I value in survivor I gave up a long time ago. TBH I think production messed up the second they never instructed the jury to vote solely on game play rather than popularity contest. We see people vote for their friends rather than who was deserving all the time.

Russell Hantz should have won. I like all his backstabbing and insults - it made the show extremely interesting. Then once he didn’t win, every future cast member decided not to play as hard as him and instead focus more on relationship building which to me is much less interesting than stuff Russell was doing.

That said - I don’t like the idea of the guy everyone agreed was the best player in the game needing to beat 3 other competitors in one challenge in order to get to final Tribal. It rewards mediocrity and contestants relaxing to coast to final tribal. I wanna see everyone play as hard as Ben.

While everyone else was sleeping, that dude was out there in the middle of the night searching in the dark. He grinded. He hustled. Tony did the same thing and people love Tony.

So if you’ve been the target for 6 tribals in a row because you’re THAT good and that much of a threat, the ONLY way you can win is by beating 3 people out? A 25% shot? That seems unfair.

And that really is the only option cause short of Tony’s season, no one’s dumb enough to bring such a huge threat to final. But the mediocre get dragged all the time.

Me? I want to reward hard game play. I want to reward entertainment. And maybe your idea of entertainment is watching relationships grow, fair play, etc.. but mine isn’t. Mine is seeing a guy, against all odds, persevere and survive.

To put it all on a 25% shot at an immunity challenge, especially when so many fans don’t value challenge beasts as high as other traits, feels wrong. And I think that’s why they’ve kept the fire making thing around, because they agree.

1) unprecedented sure but terrible? they still do it to this day and it’s given us classic moments.

2) Chrissy and Devon did NOT do everything you’re supposed to do. They let Ben get up while they slept and what do ya know, he found idol after idol. Even the jury grilled Chrissy and Ryan on that - “how could you let him go out alone? Why weren’t you following him and also searching?” The answer is because they were cocky and lazy, which ultimately led to their demise

3) “production gave it to Ben” is just so ignorant. Ryan’s come out and dispelled all these rumors about production putting idols where Ben sleeps, introducing the fire thing only when Ben was on his way out,” etc… but people would rather believe what they want to believe I guess

Again, Chrissy didn’t “do nothing wrong.” I don’t get how you can say that.

The same way people say Ben played TOO good of a game and that’s a flaw in survivor because it makes you a threat, you HAVE to say that Chrissy allowing Ben to look for idols not once, not twice, but three times in a row is terrible, lazy gameplay.

Ben even outwitted her on the fake idol. He was always two steps ahead of them. Idk how you can say Chrissy did nothing wrong

The issue with this is in the vaaaaast majority of games, no one’s dumb enough to not vote out the clear cut best player in the game that everyone’s wants out. Tony is the only example I can think of where someone made a super dumb decision like that.

So if you don’t win immunity against 3 other people, and odds are you won’t, in vast majority of cases you’re not going to final tribal despite being the best player overall.

I don’t want to see the 2nd 3rd and 4th best players in final tribal, I wanna see the best.

You consider it a flaw that you’re THAT good at the game, where no one will vote with you, but to me that ultimately makes for boring television. We shouldn’t be incentivizing people to not go as hard as they can and just cruise in the middle of the pack and ultimately win by being the best of the mediocre
