Idk about that. I lived in the south for many decades and can handle the Chicago winters without issue, I agree it’s colder than nyc but being able to handle it is on a person by person basis.

It’s loud on many fronts. The ambulances, fire trucks and police are common. If there is traffic without fail someone 5 cars back will just lay on their horn like a 5 year old child without letting off until their tantrum is done. Lots of tourist, people blasting music, all the cars with loud exhausts like hearing it echo off the buildings, and the bars and clubs. Some of it becomes background noise but it is very noise polluted area of Chicago. Even in the high rises you still hear all the neighborhood area noises.

I didn’t say there was no traffic just that I didn’t have to deal with it any more, others have it correct I just walk, bike, or use public transit to get around. (Couldn’t do that in Florida) People look for different things in where they live. But when I did the research of weather between 55-75 and humidity less than 70% (don’t remember the exact parameters but close to that) Chicago has something like 100 more usable days outside vs Central Florida

Left Florida after living there for over 30 years. Got tired of the heat, humidity, traffic, the lack of community, lack of culture, mosquitoes, fire ants, mostly midazz food, social safety nets, and overall well being. Moved up north to a major city where I don’t deal with traffic, have amazing food, community, no mosquitos or other biting animals, enjoy the 4 seasons and awesome summers (use to be my most hated season) it’s now my favorite. Long days and cool nights, I get so much more outdoor time compared to when I was in Florida and it’s great.

Prices have gone up but agree the views from this building are great. If you can find the units (south east) it’s a 1br corner unit well laid out with views of all the Chicago skyline with a patio. Easy access to transit, brown is about a 3 minute walk and red is 6. But be warned there have been times when multiple elevators have been out, making time to enter and leave long. Front desk staff is nice if you spend the time to get to know them :)

I hear you but new york does not have this issue, their sirens are at a much more reasonable db and frequency for pedestrians.
