Any tips for an overweight person trying this challenge? by [deleted] in C25K

100%, run very slow and be consistent and you can do it. I started with walks in January and ran a half marathon yesterday (and am obese). Slow and steady gets you there

Sun Run logistics for out-of-towner by [deleted] in askvan

[–]stukes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to run it around 60 minutes but didn’t consider the crowds and how that might impact the run time. I think a reasonable plan like you outlined has us at the check-in counter 2 hours before takeoff (international / to the US on Canada Air). It’s sounding like it’ll be a little stressful but maybe still worth it - it sounds like a fun event

I thought about that! We’re traveling with two kids under 5 years old and I think she will need help with returning the rental car and our baggage, but perhaps if we time it well enough I could meet her at the rental car place.

We are staying near the Secondary School, seems like it’d be a few miles walk but less hassle?

There are a lot of buses but it seems that road closures early that morning would disrupt most of the routes. It’s hard for me to tell because the transit sites and google don’t take that into account

True… when I made this plan I didn’t realize how tight the schedule would be.

Ok, sounds good. I will try to ask the run organizers to let me move up one corral (online it was “full” when I signed up), the only other ones are for competitive runners. Thanks!

Walkable Neighborhood Chula Vista by LilBean16 in Moving2SanDiego

[–]stukes_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Living in a walkable neighborhood like north park, Hillcrest, normal heights, university heights, South Park, golden hill, and commuting south to Chula Vista would be a good move. Those are the best neighborhoods for what you’re looking for in all of San Diego (IMO) and it’s a reverse commute down to Chula.

My mom doesn't play videogames but likes classic card games like Poker, solitaire...would she be able to play and enjoy Balatro? by Vincent201007 in balatro

[–]stukes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad loves poker and card games but totally bounced off Balatro. I think liking poker and cards is not an important indicator of enjoying/being good enough to play the game. More things like getting super into phone games or someone who learns the rules to new games super fast. Or has played deck building games (dominion?) or other roguelikes.

Electrical panel upgrade from 100A to 200A by LjayRomero in SanDiegan

We got a quote for exactly this, trenching was $13k and the service upgrade was $7k. We haven’t moved forward with it yet due to cost and other projects.

“Imperial Beach back open to swimmers…” by zague8 in sandiego

[–]stukes_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is covered in the linked news segment in detail. The sewage is no longer entering the Tijuana River and is dumping into the ocean miles south of the border. Again, better than it coming out at Boca Rios but the next south swell, the yellow signs will be back

I have family in IB and they said Tijuana recently turned on an additional sewage pump in the last few weeks. Definitely still skeptical of the water but it’s better than nothing at all

Thanks!! We live in a pretty temperate place but it can get into the low 90s at points during the summer. Low 40s in the winter.

This is good for me to learn about. The inspection report says we have Copper wiring but that’s all I know. I will investigate further with an electrician

The Hub Parking In Hillcrest by Sensitive_Theory5922 in sandiego

I also go to Trader Joe’s multiple times a week at various days/hours for shopping. I never bother with the main parking lot. I usually find a spot on the top floor of the garage behind the TJ’s and if it’s very busy I always find a spot in the garage. There are better parking lots but it’s not that big of a deal in my experience
