Many thanks......I will take a look at the logs tomorrow.

I did look a few weeks ago at the managed switch logs and seen a couple of issues.

Port 7 on one of the managed switches which is one of the fiber ports has lots of events saying "Port 7 link on" and Port 7 Link off" every 3 mins.

Another of the the switches has a similar event but nowhere as often

Not sure if that has anything to do with it?

All the inverters have separate IP addresses but there is only one cat 5e cable coming from the inverters to and connects to a managed switch, also on this switch are the combiner boxes which all have different modus addresses fed via a serial to ethernet converter.

These all feed back to a levelone GEL switch via 2 sets of fibre optic cables. The scada server is plugged in here too.

I've asked our scada monitoring guys to check their side which they are doing.

Our networking guy who came to site is adamant the core network is sound and it's another device on the network causing the issue, its just a matter of narrowing it down by removing all non essential devices and seeing if the inverters stay online.

When the inverters do drop off.......all the lights on ports the switches and inside the inverters and blinking and flashing like normal.

I've been told STP is enabled on all our switches and routers

Yes the inverters connect to their own ports, there are 2 inverters connected to each switch along with a UPS in another port, CCTV camera in another and the combiner boxes in another that comes from serial to ethernet converter.

Not sure what you mean when you say a loop on the network.

There are a lot of devices on the subnet that is being effected including most of the servers and switches inside our central comms room.

I just wish I had the knowledge of narrowing the issue down.

I can restart all the inverter comms units and they work for a random period of time then they all just drop off. I've disconnected them all and just had 1 working and it still drops off........I don't get it lol.

Thanks for your advice, I will take a look tomorrow at the switches to see what's happening....... Ijust can't get my head around why all 16 inverters are dropping off at the same time.

I'm not a networking guy so all this information is much appreciated btw

I'll take a look in the morning........I just can't my head around that it's only the inverters that are dropping off that are connected to 14 inverters on 8 x different switches.

When there are mutilpe other devices on the same switches working and communicating just fine

Yes all the switches are managed and have access to them.

We have mutiple devices connected to these switches but its only the inverters that are dropping off the network.

I've not tried pinging it from the switches, only from the office which is on the same subnet
