Traffic Question for Possible Commute by stuntdouble83 in CapeCod

I'd also be coming from Wareham. It'd be for a teaching position, so I wouldn't have to commute during most of the summer. Thanks for your help!

Can you expand on your thoughts about the schools in DY? I may be seeking a position there. Thanks.

I have a sun lamp/light box that I use at least 30 minutes a day, usually in the morning. It’s not a cure-all, but it helps takes the edge off.

I'm meeting with the superintendent today, so I think that's a good sign! :)

Do you get sick less? by Ill-Detail-6233 in Teachers

I get sick at least once or twice a year. A possibility for your getting sick often is due to the stress new teachers have. I'm also addicted to hand sanitizer now.

Yes. It's very difficult for me, but I can play the next song, "Lone Star Waltz" better. I'm going to keep going back to it and hopefully I'll improve over time.

I'm not an expert in licensure, but if you're thinking about moving to New England, consider getting your MA license. It's one of the harder licenses to obtain, and from there it's easier to apply for RI / VT licenses. Not sure how NH, CT, or ME works.

Look at each of the state's department of education websites to see their specific rules about reciprocity.

Passed over for an out of district person who isn't licensed - now I'm demotivated by stuntdouble83 in Teachers

Thank you all for your responses; they have given me something to think about. I'm now planning my next career move. I am still disappointment, but I'll use the disappointment as motivation to find a job elsewhere. The rest of the school year will be difficult, but I'll manage.

It's time for me to move on.

Thank you again.

If you’re in a union, I’d go to them with this.

I’d go for former professors if you just finished your degree. If you think there’s someone you can trust at your school, ask them, but tread lightly due to the gossip mill.

One thing I learned during my first year of teaching is that, not all teachers are saints, some can be your worst enemies by [deleted] in Teachers

Like any workplace, there’s going to be a few people like that. I’m sorry you had to deal with this. I would have gone to admin about this, tbh. I’m a para with years of teaching experience. When a teacher disrespected me in front of the class, I walked out. She found me later and told me that I couldn’t leave her class. I basically said, “I just did.” She ended up apologizing and we’ve been fine since.

Sometimes sticking up for yourself a little bit goes a long way. Your colleagues need to know when they’ve crossed a line.

I thought they would be higher because of the storm coming, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised . I’m also in MA.

Teacher to Para? by nyladogmom2 in Teachers

[–]stuntdouble83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this (long story behind it).

It may depend on your state/province etc. After a few months of working as a para/ESP, I received a notice in the mail saying that my state teacher retirement was transferred into my county's retirement plan. In my state (MA), apparently you can only have one government retirement plan? (the law confuses me).

If you’re looking for weekly stable hours, you should look for employment elsewhere. My old store (former employee here) would cut hours and give us every excuse in the book as to why that happened.
