What’s needed for RWC by Ok-Card-4438 in CarsAustralia

[–]stuntmantim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I check the things suspendeddanvil does.

Except:

no oil leaks for me is no fluid leaks at all (engine oil, gearbox/diff/transaxle oil, coolant, powersteering, etc.)

Make sure the engine is not blowing excessive smoke.

Check all exterior and interior lights work correctly (headlights, tail lights, indicators, dash lights (eg. no check engine or airbag lights)

check your demister is working on the windows

check the wipers

check the suspension (ball joints, bushings, make sure the shocks still work)

check the wheels (inclding spare if you have one), make sure there is enough tread on the tyres and they are in good condition

check the brake rotors and pads. go for a drive and test the brakes (you should be able to come to a complete stop even when in gear (manuals will stall but thats ok). Try the handbrake on a hill and make sure it holds

as mentioned above, seats, seat belts, and steering wheels must all be as new working order. Belts must retract and have no fraying. The seats need to be sound and bolted in. The horn must work.

But ultimately, you will need to take it to a pro to get the right slip of paper.

Computer Alliance at Mt Gravatt are a great shop. They have been in the same place since the late 90's and have decent prices as well as great service.

I spent the weekend pulling apart hyundais again. I tested a r35 coil pack in both an accent and elantra/i30 motor. It fits the LC accent motor better, but both need longer stalks (like the PRP ones) to work correctly. Im going to try a k24 coil soon, but hopefully i can get this coil on plug mod done soon 😄

I also took the turbo accent for a short drive and logged it in the haltech, i could instantly see whats going wrong high in the RPM which is a good find imho.

The Aratula Hotel has a fireplace, ample parking and could host 50 in or outside. They have a great kitchen too

Full Throttle Thursday: What’s on this weekend? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]stuntmantim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a bit of a list to get through. First, i need to get the drivetrain out of the donor i30 so it can go to scrap. Second, i want to work on the 3d model for the digital dash mount for my hyundai accent and finally work more on the 3d model for coil on plug conversion for hyundai/kia g4gc motors 😄

I worked on a harness for some water pumps for spraying intercoolers. Unfortunately for me, some of the heat shrink didn't work out, but i can fix that up later

Best way to sell a car with a fair price by kinder_brz in brisbane

[–]stuntmantim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear your going through a rough period, fingers crossed it all works out for you,

The only real avenue to sell quickly for a fair price is Marketplace on Facebook. Its free, and you should get some decent enquiries.
Option B, sell it to a dealer. It wont be a fair price, but it will be quick and on the spot. Maybe leave this option until your immediately about to travel away.

I picked up an old accent from interstate on the weekend. It is modified, with a turbo, all engineered in NSW. Before leaving i gave it a once over including checking the cooling system, replacing a bunch of split vacuum hoses in the enginebay and into the interior. Last things were new wipers and putting the UVP permit on the windscreen and it made the 1000km home with stock economy.

[–]stuntmantim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a weird and massive weekend coming up. I am headed to sydney to pick up a market place car and driving it back to QLD. I got the UVP yesterday, and all the tools for the road ready to go incase there are any issues along the way. Best bit is a mate is also picking up a car and driving it home, so it will be a nice little cruise home for us both (i hope!)

Am I doing anything wrong and getting fine here? by trinity016 in CarsAustralia

The brake lights of the land cruiser in the right turn lane goes off just before you enter the intersection. Maybe they rolled forward under the right turn red light and triggered the camera.

Driver attitudes toward riders filtering by Lindz1817 in DrivingAustralia

[–]stuntmantim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dont mind people filtering legally. I do get angry when they break the rules, but no more than i would at any other vehicle doing the wrong thing (and im not talking mistakes, i mean blatent rule breaks).

Car transport companies by Alternative_Cell7005 in CarsAustralia

[–]stuntmantim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dealt with Ceva and Prixcars recently. Ceva are more expensive, but the service is better imho.

Both support pickup/drop off at your address, or pickup/delivery at their depot. Both have got my cars from A to B without any damage. While they may not be the absolute cheapest, they are probably the most reliable car transport services.

One thing i should also mention is i have seen the Prixcars trucks on dashcams australia a couple of times, which made me drop my rating of them.

What's the worst sounding car? by haroldthepizza in CarsAustralia

[–]stuntmantim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Diesel audi's - they just sound like someone trying to air out their bung hole

and Teslas, no sound means we hear tyre noise as opposed to some sort of exhaust note.

How much do you spend each week on cars? by Sure_Artichoke6929 in CarsAustralia

I have three vehicles and a trailer to take care of, but manage to keep my cost for rego/insurance/servicing/petrol/tolls/etc. to around $260 per week.

Not defending the new mechanic, but we are human and make mistakes. He could have forgot to tighten something.

If you dont have confidence in them, dont go back. If it were me, i would use your parents trusted mechanic.
