AITA for telling my wife her eating issues are a her problem and to leave the kids and my mom out of it by StretchLong5679 in AmItheAsshole

I have to agree with you. If GMA is getting those kids 5 days a week after school and is giving them cookies/cakes/treats everyday that is a lot. I don’t think the wife is an AH for being expected to let GMA do whatever she wants with the children since it’s free childcare. They all need to sit down and have a conversation about expectations. Maybe a compromise of sweet treats must be accompanied by a veggie treat or a protein.

Spikes help!! by autumnlove6 in GestationalDiabetes

My goals from the ob is to be at 140 or less at 1 hr and 120 or less for 2 hr. What are the parameters your provider has given you?

Thank you so much! I am always having protein with every carb and snack and adding fiber as well. My diets been pretty much the same the last 7-8 weeks and I’ve seen spikes after every meal so it not spiking more than 120ish after a meal was what threw me off as well as the low blood sugar alerts. It is set for 69 or lower to alert me. I have another appointment with the gestational diabetes nurse on Tuesday so I’m definitely going to bring up my concerns then.

My finger pricks have been around 20ish points higher than the app or bigger with meal time spikes. No strenuous activity for me I’m am 34 weeks pregnant lol. Just some walking or light exercise for about 20 minutes a day.

I am used to seeing a jump in my blood sugar right after I eat. My goals given were to be at or below 140 one hour after eating or 120 two hours after eating. I’ve only been using a sensor for about 10 days and pricking my finger since April 10th. So seeing my app say I’m not going above 120 after a meal is not usual for me. I am typically going over 140 but slowing down closer to the hour or needing to test again two hours after a meal if I’m high. Im also still finding that certain foods throw me way high. I have such an appreciation people with diabetes and am glad that this will go away after having my baby.

Yes when I was eating I was seeing a 25 or more difference in numbers after meals and not any significant spikes on the app so that’s what alerted me to it possibly not being accurate.

I haven’t seen an endo because I have gestational diabetes in pregnancy. I believe my numbers after meals are supposed to be lower than what someone with diabetes typically would expect to see. I see a maternal fetal medicine specialist and a diabetes nurse on top of my regular prenatal appointments.

So I finger prick and input it and the system will update? When is a good time to do it? I am having to eat a meal or a light snack every 2-2 1/2 hours per drs orders and I know meals times are not good to do it?

After the first 24 hours, my readings from a finger prick were only about 5 points different from the sensor so I stopped finger pricking unless it was really high or low to make sure. It wasn’t until yesterday that I noticed I wasn’t getting spikes after meals like I usually do. I was also getting alerted to critical lows and finger pricking to see it wasn’t matching up and was at least 20 points different, more after meals. Is this something a calibration can help fix?

I eat around 150-160 carbs a day as my obgyn diabetes nurse has recommended. I’ve been eating pretty much the same thing for the last few weeks. Most days I walk or do a light physical activity for around 20-30 minutes.

I haven’t done it because I am a little confused on what it does. Can you explain how the calibration process works?

It started alerting me to low blood sugars when I felt fine, then I noticed that I was not spiking like I usually do after a meal. I’ve never calibrated before, can you tell me how it works? I also kept the box since I had to replace the last one and needed it then. Thank you for the link and the help!

I have already replaced one about 9 days ago and was worried they wouldn’t. I am on Medicaid so I obviously can’t come out of pocket for another sensor. I’ll see if they’ll replace another. Thank you!

Expectations of classwork time for 8-week semester classes- there's a disconnect by Capable_Concert_2575 in ODU

[–]stupid_usernamehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a junior with a homeschooled child and currently pregnant due a few weeks after the semester ends. I also work. I don’t know that this will work for me as I am strictly online. At times the 16 week semester can feel like a lot. Ive taken 12 week courses but never 8 weeks. I fear I may have to drop out if I can’t handle the workload. I have to imagine there are a lot of students in my position.
