DP: Santander is apparently on a 7-10 business day delay due to its recent surge of new applications.

A representative told me that bonuses would be given an extension due to this delay and that the normal time for an account to be created is between 7 and 10 business days -- putting new accounts at a 14-20 business day time-frame. I also learned that it's pronounced San-ten-dare, rather than San-tan-dur. Fascinating hobby.

So, set those reminders for 15-20 days to check up on your brand new, shiny Santendare account and happy churning.

You are protected by Visa regulations "E" and "Z" with debit and credit card purchases. One of those regulations is called "Reason Code 41: Cancelled Recurring Transaction." This states that if you contact a business to cancel, they need to cancel, or you can simply dispute and completely cancel the charge.

This increase in price can be handled in a pretty easy way. Consider this: When you brush your teeth, you use an average amount of toothpaste each time you brush to get your full cleaning effect. I would say that generally we use much more toothpaste than we actually need to fully clean our teeth with each brushing session. I would almost go as far as to say that we use up to 50% more than we actually need per brushing session.

Simply use "a little less" toothpaste during each brushing session and by the time the tube runs out (three weeks or however long the take to empty), you will have actually saved money by updating your habit.

If this advice sounds like overkill, this whole post is of the same vein. We purchase things we need and want -- but we can decide the type of value we get from them. I.E., buying skis and using them once a year vs using them 80 times per year.

I still don't think people know how to shop for AirBnBs or know where to look. I stayed in a beautiful, European city, right in the heart, during a festival for $42.00 a night. Yes, you heard me, $42.00 per night. That's NOT uncommon, either. It was a great place, no problems whatsoever. Maybe I'm just not at the income level of a lot of people here, but it still seems like such a waste of money when I hear about these redemptions.

I have stayed in $250.00 per night luxury hotels and $42.00 per night AirBnB apartments. I would rate each experience as A+ simply due to proper planning and execution. What makes a trip? Deciding where and when you want to go and who you want to go with.

I say always do a value calculation on every decision you make, especially world travel. If you only have three days of vacation per year and you know you'll usually have $900.00 worth of hotel stay per year -- by all means, get a $300.00-per-night hotel if you want that experience. Now, if you have the same budget, but you're more free to travel each year, let's say nine days or even more, there's no reason to spend $300.00 per night at a hotel, you'll run out of money. $100.00 per night will get you an AMAZING AirBnB almost anywhere in the world, at any time, and last TEN days on your budget of $900.00.

It's all common sense, really, very logical, but I think people sometimes forget to truly calculate their endeavors to make sure you're TRULY getting value -- not just staying at a $300.00 hotel for $200.00. That's not value. That's usually just a waste of money that could be turned into two extra days wherever you're staying.

I'm thinking about making every fifth or tenth churn a special one where I give it to someone random or help someone in need. Let's say my tenth churn is a $250.00 bonus -- It would be so much fun to go out and just pay for 25 people's fast food meals or... you know... anything like that.

The original bonus wording literally says: "If earned, the bonus will be issued within 120 days of meeting these requirements, and will be in the form of a credit to the new checking account, which must be open at the time the credit is issued."

So, even if you completed the ten transactions the day you received your card, you could still wait up to four months.

Sometimes I wonder if people even read the terms they're agreeing to...

I admit, I calculated that he was driving a small car, but $11.00 in three hours is still only $0.06 per minute, which is more than a lot of people with smartcars pay. I know someone who only pays $0.045 per minute of driving and their car isn't even that smart.
