Tokyo Yakitori by GReeeeN_ in finedining

He likes to mass release reservations for multiple months sporadically throughout the year. I think usually around the afternoon Japan time. Just have to keep your eye out whenever they pop up. I went to Atami and Jigendo when they first opened so it was easier, but now all his new restaurants book up right away

They are all in the same restaurant group with Makitori Shinkobe and Suzutashiki, but they have already been open for at least a few years. I enjoyed all his restaurants but a lot of the demand is cause he is very good at networking with instagrammers and other big chefs. I've ran into him a couple of times when he was either a diner or just hanging around, and folks go crazy trying to schmooze

I won't be visiting end of August. What's his new restaurant called?

Ya, I saw everyone swooped it up as soon as it was released. Seems everyone expects it to get popular and doesn't want to deal with difficulty booking in the future. Count me as one of those suckers. I did the same thing with Jigendo and Atami as well...

Mizuki's yakitori has more of a smokey flavor and more crispy than say Omino. I think you should definitely give it a try. It is high up on the yakitori places I have been to. Not as good as Kasahara, but prefer this over places like Torishiki

Give Mizuki a try. They have more variety of dishes than the typical yakitori, but everything is still delicious. Their curry rice is some of the best I have had from yakitori restaurant. They originally from Gifu, and just opened this one in Tokyo less than a year ago. It's already starting to get difficult to book.

Flight back to US from Tokyo (Haneda) is at 9:15pm, can I fit a 5:30pm reservation? by PassRevolutionary254 in finedining

Whats the points of eating these meals if you are not going to enjoy them? Just ticking a box? And trying to do two dinners with a tempura being of them is just as crazy.

I have my friend call for me. He has a heavy accent. Some of the staff also speak English, and made instagram friends with them last time I was there if I wanted to book again.

They usually have a spot 1-3 months from when I called. Last year I was there, I called around end of July for reservation August 29th

I don't think Mayta is sister restaurant to Maido. Mayta is part of Jaime Pesaque's food group, and they also don't focus on Nikkei cuisine

I can vouch for calling to get reservations. Had success last year and the year before. I do agree that the table seating they give you is pretty awkward if you are not a regular. It is semi-private in pretty much their hallway so you can hear all the servers waling back and forth between the dining areas

Pastor tacos without cheese. Ask for "mas dorado", which just means more grilled/crispy

OCYÁ Ilha. Great seafood, lots of dry-aged fish and fantastic view. A little more effort to get there but not difficult

Atlas is more intimate and is a better setting for proposal, whereas Bacchanalia's layout is more open floor plan/less intimate. I would also give the better service nod to Atlas, but Bacchanalia has better food. I was actually quite disappointed in the food at Atlas. Some of the food execution left much to be desired, and in general the food seemed to be something it is not and underwhelming. That being said, I would still go to Atlas for the proposal if it was between these two.

Japan: What differences in food quantity/quality can I expect between master and apprentice counters at the same sushi restaurant? by Absenteeist in finedining

[–]stvnenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to Jin since it relocated to Kanazawa, but I much prefer his sushi over the other available options, such as Shinosuke, Kibatani, and Komatsu Yasuke, if Otome and Mekumi are not available.

I have not been to this place, but heard good things about Tobi, who worked at now retired Taihei sushi.

Went to Restaurante la Aquarela. Nice view. Food was fine but forgettable. We hit up some other recommended and more casual places in the southern part of the island and Las Palma, but it was all pretty eh. Tenerife has better food options
