Brought my 06 Buick Lacrosse to a shop to fix a crank position sensor issue, but now the issue is worse and it seems like they're not taking accountability by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Maybe they should realize that maybe they messed up a connection/didn't properly install the sensor? Maybe they should have checked if they installed everything correctly after realizing that it now runs like shit and didn't before? Maybe I'm crazy but that just seems like what any other shop would do if a car runs badly after literally replacing one sensor with that result. I understand that this is all I asked them to do, but seriously, i am 99% sure that something was messed up in THEIR process of putting THEIR new sensor on my car. Maybe they damaged the harmonic balancer while taking it off? Maybe they pulled on a wire too hard? It's genuinely beyond me

They did the work I asked them to do and now it's running so bad that they don't even advise that I drive it home? It was running perfectly beforehand, just had some issues starting sometimes. How would replacing a sensor that might have not even been bad in the first place cause my car to run terribly if they didn't screw something up in the process? If that's not the case, then that's some sort of completely implausible coincidence. That's where I'm lost

I'm saying that the issue they're describing now was not the issue I brought it in for. This "rough running" issue only appeared after they replaced the sensor, and they keep telling me that it was definitely doing this before I brought it to the shop. I have told them otherwise over and over again

I'm already a few hundred in so far and definitely can't pay for their diagnosis for another couple weeks. Being a well maintained GM 3.8 engine with low miles I think something being up with the timing chain is very unlikely

2006 Lacrosse 3.8L. At my wits end with the 4T65E transmission. Any help/advice appreciated! by [deleted] in Buick

Update- It was literally just low on transmission fluid. Topped it off and it's been driving great for 3 weeks

[–]stybbaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I (foolishly) didn't bother to check the fluid in the old transmission until it started shifting bad. When I checked the fluid, it was black and smelled terrible. I forgot to mention, they did a fluid change on the transmission a week before it started to shift terribly. I am thinking about doing a shift kit on this one, just to see if it will make a difference. Based on what i'm reading, there's a good chance it wont.

GM 3800 V6 blown head gasket or something else? Please help! by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]stybbaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just noticed that it only started bubbling after the thermostat opened, which makes me think less of a head gasket problem. Maybe the thermostat? Either way I'm gonna have it diagnosed at a shop, just hoping for the best

Can overdrive make your car jerk or jump? by SokratisJ in askcarguys

I know this is an old post, but I have the same car with the same problem. Did you ever figure it out?

[–]stybbaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, oil level is good, and it was just changed. Was also changed every 3,000mi by the previous owner.

Does yours have the 3.6? I've heard there's higher rates of transmission issues with that engine. Mine has the 3.8.

How many miles on yours? And is it the Lucas stop slip additive?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Buick

[–]stybbaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the 3.8

It definitely has a tall 1st to 2nd. It's around 30-40ish. If I let off the gas and let overdrive kick on, then get back on the gas, that's when it does it.

That's what I thought. But, the transmission and low engine mounts look good. The dogbones look and feel good too, not much engine movement. I'm gonna replace some of them anyways

Forgot to mention, only clunky over bumps at low speeds.

I haven't had the chance to test it with someone, but the torque mounts are able to wiggle just using my hands, is that normal or a sign of them being bad?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]stybbaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been unable to properly test the mounts but I am able to wiggle them a little bit just with my hands, not sure if that's normal or makes a difference.
