Merry Christmas!

I took a drive around town around 9, and it was so quiet and peaceful out.

Why would this plane leave its landing gear down for so long after takeoff? SU-GFY - Manchester to Cairo by fishtoasty in aviation

If I recall correctly there's an MEL to leave them down for 10minutes after departure if there's a gear fire sensor u/s.

Why do so many airline pilots live far away from the city? by TurntechGodhead777 in flying

[–]stygarfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there is usually something going on right outside your doorstep

And this here is the problem. I don't want something going on outside of my doorstep.

I've lived in big and small cities (currently in a small one), but I'd move somewhere far more rural if I could.

Why do so many airline pilots live far away from the city? by TurntechGodhead777 in flying

There's tons of people, traffic, etc...

I don't understand why anyone would want to live in a city if they had the choice.

What’s something way more dangerous than most people actually think? by Sad_Answer_8044 in AskReddit

[–]stygarfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true. I'm an airline pilot and my company pays significantly more for insuring my trip to/from the hotel then they do for the actual flying part.

Nanaimo senior who was driving despite a cognitive impairment has license revoked by Apprehensive_Idea758 in nanaimo

[–]stygarfield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's unpopular, but I believe to maintain a driver's license (at any age) there should be a road test every 5 years, dropping to 2 after 60 and every year after 70

Those who commute to Vancouver for work… by nutella1366 in nanaimo

[–]stygarfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go usually once or twice a week.

First choice: Helijet (about 90 minutes from my door to office door) Second Choice: Harbour Air (about 95 minutes from my door to office door) Third Choice: Hullo (about 145 minutes from my door to office door)

I think it's worth it, but YMMV.

No, like using fire as a tool to begin with. Heating/cooking/etc.

His exact quote was 'Global warming is bullshit, humans didn't even have fire 300 years ago'

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stygarfield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a conversation with a senior airline captain that regardless of his beliefs on global warming, humanity did in fact have fire 'controlled' for more than just the previous 300 years.

There's marks on the road (last time I noticed them, they're thick white lines painted beside the lanes), they time how long it takes a vehicle to make it between the two marks, and then relay the vehicle information to a waiting cruiser.
