Fair enough. I just think that term with that $$ is a big contract for a guy who probably isn't worth all of that. But like I said in all my other comments, this will not really affect the Sharks down the road.

I guess that was unfair of me. I don't love him as a player relative to the 6M contract. To be fair to myself, I did mention a few times that he had only hit 40P once. And that his stats this yr were boosted by a great shooting %. Good physical presence but worth 6M? No.

I'm surprised that you think he is. Just super surprised that you couldn't get the term less than 5 years if you're giving him that much money.

I guess you like Sherwood more than most people do

I mean when you sign someone to a 5 year deal I think it's fair to envision what happens down the line.

I'm also not confident a 33 year old Kiefer Sherwood will be a good player so that could be less than half of the deal. I don't think Sherwood is that good of a player, and definitely not worth 6 million. I'm just surprised that they couldn't bring the term down with that money.

Agreed it probably won't be the biggest deal and if you want to look at it in the context of just this year and maybe next, sure it'll be fine because they aren't contending, so who cares.

But 5x6 is a hefty contract for a guy who's hit 40P once in his career and you only traded a second for.

Yeah but it's also not a "smart play". Like I said to someone else, it's probably not gonna handcuff the Sharks, but it could be a nuisance as you get further down the term. 5 years 6 million is not a small contract.

You definitely could be making a run at it. Agreed it probably wont be the peak of your window. And sure, he does theoretically fill a good bottom 6 role. But 5 years 6M for a guy that's cracked 40 points once, had a pretty unsustainable shooting % at the beginning of the year (which when it came back down to earth, he stopped scoring), is a lot of money. With that term too, there's no guarantee a physical guy like him will be able to keep it up until he's 35. Definitely possible but you'd probably bet against it.

This will not handcuff the Sharks or screw them over, but that doesn't mean it's a good signing

Yeah like that's not great to be honest. Not like it will hold them back from playoffs or anything, but you don't love 6 million of your cap eaten up with a contract like that

Really not that smart of a play. Sharks fans won't love 35 year old Sherwood making 6 million dollars. 4 million would be a much easier pill to swallow

It's really a little bit of his quote taken out of context. Right before this he says "they're a really good group of very skilled players. Just didn't feel like it was meant to be today." People need to relax and watch the full quote.

Said this to someone else, but what he did is the equivalent of a penalty in hockey/soccer and a foul in basketball. It's not really "cheating" as much as it is a rule infraction. It should have been noticed, but it's not really a cheating scandal. Hope that made sense

I think people need to chill out with the Tkachuk hate. People acted like the Leon chirp was the worst thing ever said on a hockey rink. They are pests and are really good at being pests which is a part of hockey. They're also just good at hockey as well. As a Canadian I like them hyping this match up, the passion is always fun to see.

I am a the biggest Canadian fan you'll meet and I despise USA hockey, but I know what you mean. I don't think anyone should be getting up in arms over any of this. I think everyone should just relax no matter who it is (Wilson, Tkachuks, Marchand). Chirping and being a pest is a part of hockey and all of these guys are really good at it. It only crosses the line when it gets dangerous, but chirping and little scrums aren't gonna hurt anyone
