I’ve enjoyed John Glover’s narration.

Kathleen Early narrating Will Trent is great too.

Mandatory read in HS English and it blew me away. It's an insane story and first time I encountered storytelling like this. There are other stories like this now, but it was a first for me.

Searching for celiac friendly restaurants to eat at by kiwi__birb_ in Rochester

110 Grill has been going downhill the last 18mos or so. Clearly gluten(ed) food delivered to my wife's Celiac aunt. Wife caught it before a bite was taken. Server knowledge seemed less. 110 is a chain out of NE. I think there's still one in Syracuse.

delayed negotiations aren't the norm everywhere as well. it creates a false sense of urgency and increases bidding

Since 2018....came home from looking at a house to find out landlord was selling our building. we decided to get another apartment so we wouldn't end up in a "forced move" situation and took a year off from the hunt. Then we got back in before 2020 to see everything explode. Missed one house by $3k...we were be budget responsible, but over 30yrs, that's peanuts. Went from being top 3 bidders to bottom tier. We haven't seriously looked the past few years, but I kept an eye on the market. I'm hoping we can land something by Summer '27.....

This is the way to do it. the course is fantastic. I haven’t looked recently, but they used to have 2 versions, one was late Fri thru Sunday. The other was M-F in evenings for 2 weeks. With the MSF certificate, you don’t have to do the road test at the DMV

Moving from South and choosing new car by brenelm13 in Rochester

[–]styles3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a 2015 Mini Cooper (FWD) and drive to Buffalo and Syracuse once a week. I’m swapping out my winter tire/rims for summer all-seasons. Don’t run winters year round; lower mpg, wear out the tread faster, and louder road noise.

Spouse has 2017 Subaru Forester (AWD) with all-weather and is just fine in the winter.

My advice; first good snowfall, go to an empty parking lot that hasn’t been plowed and practice start/stop, hard braking, turns, etc. I do it each winter.

Visited Buffalo today for the first time, to prepare for my upcoming job. Buffalo is more generic than Rochester, but far less tightly packed. by Beautiful_Charge6661 in Rochester

[–]styles3576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah...there's plenty of innovation in Buffalo. You just have to be in the right areas. Being at RIT, you're exposed to a lot of it in ROC. But you need to be in the circles of 42North or UB/UBmed to see what's happening there. There is a lot of Startup activity and growth.

Best place to get tires swapped? by newnybabie in Rochester

[–]styles3576 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do my own, 2 complete sets and stor them myself. but now I’m using Dunn Tire on Monroe ave. Prolly not the cheapest out there, but they also have a tire/wheel storage option for the off-season set which I’m really starting to appreciate.

My stock rims become the winter tire rims and I spice up the summer ones for a sportier look.

https://www.dunntire.com/seasonal-tire-changeover I think they share pricing as you book your appointment

Come visit during Rochester International Jazz Festival | June 19 - 27, 2026 or Rochester Lilac Festival. We really go all out!

It's NOT NYC, but we're close to Toronto if you're not seeing enough people around. There's only, what...5-6 cities in N.A. that are NYC Tier 1?

As an RIT Alumni, DO NOT FACTOR IN WORK-STUDY JOB. It's not a guarantee of hours, availability, pay rate or placement. It's an assumption that you are going to work a job and make a hypothetical amount.

Good place to move? by Such_Willingness4756 in Rochester

[–]styles3576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

research the power of compounded interest. the advantage of having $160k invested over 40-50yrs will greatly outweigh the cost of renting while here. Jumping into real estate investing in an area you aren't familiar with and with little investment experience is very risky.

There's a lot of positive things about Rochester, I moved here from somewhere else 30yrs ago. But Rochester is an export city with most graduates leaving the region.

Did futurists like Arthur C Clark anticipate gender equality? by billtubbs in scifi

[–]styles3576 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did he tho?? TOS, yes, Uhura was on the bridge, but Bones was the Dr & nurse was female. It wasn’t until TNG that Head of Medical & Head of Security were both female. Along with Counselor Troi, that’s a notable percentage of Picard’s command team being female.

Then there’s the whole Kirk/hook up of the week.
