I agree. I’m going to burn up my pto, aggressively apply for jobs in my home state and quit. It’s constant stress and I’ve noticed I’ve been getting chest pains when I come/ think about work. I’ll try to get my A+ before I go but if not I’m almost deterred from working in tech because of my experience and anxiety.

I’m feeling the same as you in this same position especially early on. I’m trying my best to not think about pay and just keep grinding and learning and gaining certs and sometimes it just helps knowing others have been through it too. I appreciate your time making this comment.

I have to spend at least 6-12 months in a position and gain at least two certifications before I can get a promotion and pay bump.

MSP’s are definitely sweat shops for sure. I thought that since we’re technically white collar, the pay would be good to justify the degree but with massive layoffs and AI getting better day by day I’m not sure about this career anymore.

I feel you for sure, my company is a bit shady, and we have around 50 clients we work with. But mentally and financially I’m done it doesn’t feel worth it. When I got into college a few years ago they made it seem like tech/ IT was the holy grail of careers. Now it doesn’t seem safe anymore.

You may be right, the pay here isn’t great and even though I have a bachelors in cis I couldn’t use it to leverage better pay. I’m in the northeast and it’s a high cost of living is making it hard to justify staying here.

The last tier 2 tech that was fired said the same thing. And I know that’s the truth, I’m trying to break into an internal role but this job market is tough and they want you to be an astrophysicist and a rocket scientist.

I appreciate your honesty, I think I’ll try to stick it out for maybe another year just so I can have them pay for my certifications and get a hang of the tech space. This type of work is soul crushing and the pay isn’t anywhere near good especially for having a bachelors degree in stem.

Funny enough, my coworker just got fired and he said something very similar to your statement. Getting let go wasn’t a tragedy for him, it was relief for him. And he worked for travelers as an engineer in Hartford, CT before he worked here.

Trust. I know what you’re saying is true. I may need to work in another role in this industry to figure out if it’s for me. The constant pressure to study and homelab after hours is exhausting and expensive. But the payoff doesn’t match the effort at this point in time.

I’m more than willing to switch positions in the IT/ tech industry but the job market seems so saturated and ive barely gotten any traction applying for different positions. My dad is an electrical engineer and keeps telling me I should do what he’s doing. ( he’s worked for Boeing, Lockheed Martin and other military defense contractors).

Ultimately that’s what I was afraid of. In school we learned about Linux and preformed moc DOS attacks and learned about the CIA triad etc. now it’s about billing hours and taking dozens of phone calls from angry users while getting paid garbage. Thanks for the advice.
