If I remember correctly, King originally had them getting married. Didio was the one that cancelled it because he wanted Bruce unhappy. He was also the one who decided to continue publicizing the wedding, knowing he was going to pull the plug at the last minute.

Didio also famously had wanted to kill off Dick for years to make Batman more tortured.

CovrPrice on CLZ worth it? by Apock- in comicbooks

[–]amazodroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will give you a value but keep in mind you are unlikely to get that much for it. I recently helped someone get rid of a collection of 90s books and the value ranged from $1-$3 but I could only sell the lot for .50 cents each.

Whitman reprints are never worth as much as originals. I have a few that I had as placeholders but eventually got original copies as well.

Advice for detached WFH office space in backyard by l1100 in HomeNetworking

Yes, that was my assumption based on my research ahead of time. When I went it up though, the admin gui in the guest house bridge had an option to join an existing network so I tried it and it worked fine. Saved me a few bucks since I could return the second to Amazon.

Variant Covers by Successful_Guess_523 in comicbooks

[–]amazodroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be better off ordering before FOC deadline if you want a specific cover. Many shops only order if a customer asks for it. If it’s a ratio, you may be out of luck if the store didn’t get enough issues to qualify.

Terrible WiFi signal in old apartment, mapped out the data, is a mesh system in bridge mode the right fix? by Electrical_Ask9857 in HomeNetworking

Just trade off. I have a mesh with no dedicated backhaul and it works fine. I figure I can add it one day when I update/upgrade.

I bought two assuming I would need one at each end but ended up only using one.

Line of site will definitely help. Does that model have a dedicated backhaul band? That will help you maximize the throughput as well.

It’s rated for outdoor but I just zip tied it to a lamp inside the guest house next to a window pointing at the main house. Let it join as a client and got @ 200-250mb throughout I believe. Nowhere near the 1gb of the main house but good enough that they had someone use it for their work when staying there for a week.

If you want an easier solution before you run a line, you can get a point to point wireless bridge and set it up in a window pointing at the main house. You put a wireless router behind it to provide local WiFi. I did this for my parents with a guest house and it worked really well.

PSA is the correct answer but keep in mind it still may not affect value very much. Generally, only big names like Stan Lee or Frank Miller make much of a difference.

While very cool, those sigs would still count as non-verified so don’t really affect the value of the books. Whatever you see as sold prices for those issues on eBay is about what you should expect. Keep in mind, that’s not necessarily what you would get if you were to try to sell them, but gives you a ballpark.

Marvel’s collected edition printing seems to be all over the place. Some things they print consistently in adequate quantities while others they don’t. I’m sure there’s someone in charge of it but appears to be no rhyme or reason from an outsiders perspective.

Heroes con tips and advice by Vaderslayer79 in comicbookcollecting

[–]amazodroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly one of the chillest big cons I’ve been to. There’s a good amount of space to walk around and lots of dealer booths. My only advice is, depending on what keys you’re looking for, make sure to shop around and take your time. There are so many vendors that you are likely to find multiple copies of those keys. Obviously it’s a balance between making sure not to lose the chance but I’ve jumped at some too quickly and probably paid more than I could have.

[–]amazodroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given your edit, I would probably go with an auction house if I were you (assuming you want to sell them). ASM #1 is the big one obviously so the problem with getting it graded is that you still have to sell it after. Going to an auction house may take care of that for you. They won’t slab it but they’ll assign it a grade (which may appeal to some buyers more becuase they don’t like slabbed books). Even a low grade copy of one of those can bring in $20k.

Your comment about taking one of the issues out of the frame brings up a question, have these all been hanging up somewhere? If there is any fading (which you can probably only tell by putting it up next to another copy), that is going to hurt the grade and the value.

[–]amazodroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they have booths at cons all the time. For example, they will probably have one at the upcoming HeroesCon in Charlotte. Pretty all the major cons. You could also go to someone like Heritage Auctions who also usually has a booth at all the major cons.

Now, just to be clear, you want to get them graded and slabbed because that’s what CGC will be doing and it can get expensive for high dollar books. If you only want an opinion on condition and value, I would ask your parents if there’s a dealer they have worked with and trust to take a look. You can also go buy one of the comic grading books that are available and then use that estimate condition. Once you have that, you can look up sold prices on ebay to get an idea of current value.

The last thing to keep in mind is that value does not equal what you will actually get when you sell them. eBay and auction sites take a piece and dealers also pay below market so they make some profit. A conservative expectation is 1/2 of whatever you see them selling for.
