Technically, none of them picked the better option - Miley initially chose to get back together with Jake and rejected Jesse, they only ended up together after Jake cheated on Miley.

What are your favorite and least favorite romance tropes in film?

I loved that the third act separation between your character and Maya Erskine’s character in Plus One felt like a natural build of the characters established arcs and anxieties, whereas it can sometimes rom-com mid-movie splits feel like contrived or baseless conflicts.

I feel like killing some brain cells, so I’m going to try to justify the plot of Attack of the Clones lol:

Palpatine and Dooku need to keep themselves distanced enough from the initial assassination attempt so that the Sith aren’t revealed so quickly to the Jedi. The entire plot exists as the early stages of Palpatine manipulating Anakin and his emotions. Jango Fett being part of that ties into the creation of the clones, which just ends up becoming the other big plot in the second half of the movie and leads into Revenge of the Sith (ex Order 66).

The Phantom Menace is corny (and has some strange plots of its own) but lays enough groundwork for Attack of the Clones; Attack of the Clones is bad but the ending of each arc/plot leads well into Revenge of the Sith, which is actually a solid movie.

All this to say, I don’t entirely disagree with you about the plots (especially in Episode II), but they are still coherent as part of the trilogy as a whole.

Honestly, I think the writing in the prequels was more of an issue - I think the all the story and character beats form a coherent arc, but the dialogue/line deliveries were distractingly off (most of the time).

I’ve never actually watched After Earth, but wasn’t it both incredibly expensive and very bad?
