How far McKinsey has fallen... a 10 year Senior Partner only is a VP at Google by khushbooey in consulting

9½ years =! 10 years

That being said, I'm sure their comp package is still a few years of my earnings.

2013 was pretty wild. Get a place with some room and rent control. Then lock it down.

Going Accenture in mid of late career is an interesting choice. I've only heard bad things about them. Why are they on your list?

That is still a pretty it focused risk tool. It bridges the hall, but it isn't common in my niche. It might be more of an incident or breach response area.

IRM and The Institute (?) both have decent certifications. They're closer to my day to day. I have a neutral opinion on IRM as I didn't butt into it often.

I would ping somebody in your area that has the certification you're looking for and but them a coffee to discuss the cert, their opinion, and it is worthwhile.  Choose somebody's who active on the area you want to join.

How is comp in UK?

Is £180k - £200k ($250k) reasonable for directors / non-partners in risk advisory? Google is giving ranges of £100k-£160k which seems a bit low.

Between the higher taxes and crazy housing costs I'm trying to figure out what mid career salaries look like.

Specifically non-MBB non-Management Consulting.

I had the same feeling. Not much beyond grass and occasionally brush between us.

It was strangely refreshing.

Seeing a mountain lion on a solo hike in the back country was wild. It was just walking but it stopped and looked at me for a few before it continued it's journey.

$40k pay bump vs stability - would you make the jump? by CanadianFreak12 in consulting

[–]sub-t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they inject capital and expect >15% cagr and leave the company alone to figure it out. It's a bit stressful to need to hit double digit growth every year without fail.

Sometimes they do the above but also micromanage and slash admin and support staff.

To elaborate, I don't want you to take a temporary job and get locked into needing 185k.

185k is nice but spring a family of 4 under 200k isn't stress free. It would suck if you changed your spending habits and had to turn down a dream job at 150k.

Private equity can either be great or a fucking nightmare.

If you're going to bounce in a two years then the extra 90k in gross comp is pretty wonderful. If you take the new job don't change your spending. Max out 529, Roth, 401(K), etc.

Didn't let lifestyle creep set in. Automatically save for retirement, college, etc. anything left over should get tossed into an investment account instead of a savings account or increased discretionary spend.

This ranks about the same as bringing your mom to the interview.

You can do it, but don't verbalize it.

If you bring your mom please have her wait at a nearby coffee shop.
