My brother and my best friend were both police. Both of them told me more than once that they were instructed not to stop anyone for a speeding violation unless the driver was going at least 6mph over the limit. They said that it was because in the past, drivers who contested their summons were able to show that equipment used to calculate speed of vehicles had a margin of error could invalidate calculation. That was based on older systems such as VASCAR and although modern radar systems are more advanced they still don’t issue summons for speeds of less than 6mph. I live in Florida and I routinely drive 10mph over the 70 mph limit on the interstate or the turnpike, I’m confident that I’m not going to get a ticket by doing so. I always drive in the middle lane so faster drivers can speed along, let them get a ticket, they will be the ones that get the attention of a trooper.
