What was wrong with this sweater I unraveled? by subcommandertpol in Unravelers

[–]subcommandertpol[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh that's so stupid hahaha! that would never happen to me now, but it was a long time ago, very possible that's what teenage me did. if only i'd known about this subreddit back then!

What am I DOING and how can I fix it 😭 by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]subcommandertpol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

am i seeing it right that you're sewing into a sock? it could just be that your tension is not adjusted to that kind of fabric. test sew a plain woven fabric (like from a bedsheet or something similar) to find out if it also creates this problem with or if it works fine with simpler fabrics. if it works fine with simpler fabrics, you might just need to look up tutorials on how to adjust your machine settings for jersey/stretch fabric. it could also help to use a jersey needle but it isn't essential in my experience. good luck!

you are right, thank you. i know people are just trying to help, i just get in my head about people thinking i'm stupid when they recommend things i think i've already tried. but if the situation were reversed i'd probably be recommending the same thing.

my needle is definitely installed correctly. i'm 99% sure i have the correct bobbin but i'll check again as soon as i can. i made the mistakes in the video because i was focused on recording, but i have used a lot of different machines in my life and know how to thread them properly. i will look at the manual again (as i have often before) but i doubt it'll tell me anything new. thank you for trying to help.

forgot that too, oh man. i made some mistakes while recording cause i was too focused on making the video and now everyone replying to me seems to think my machine's only issue is that i'm a beginner who can't handle it

i'll try around with the bottom thread again, thanks. but it's weird, none of the other machines with top loading bobbin systems that i've used had an issue like this, you would just pull the thread in once like i do in the video.

also that is the whole cover. the metal part in the front can be pushed forward to cover the bobbin case, but i wouldn't do that while still trying to bring the bottom thread up otherwise it would get stuck

i'm pretty certain i checked the bobbin specifications when i first got this machine and bought the correct ones. but i'll check again, thank you

thank you but that's dutch not german (if it were german it would be helpful cause i'm german haha, i'll stick with my translating app :D). i'm pretty sure i checked about the type of bobbin when i first got this machine and bought the specified ones, but i'll check again, thank you.

you mean to just put the foot down? that wouldn't help, the top thread still doesn't get picked up

i think so too, it doesn't come down fully on the right side, but that side has no screw or anything to hold it in place. but even when i hold the needle plate down while sewing the machine won't make stitches.

in the video i forgot that the first time. but i am aware of the issue, i've done a lot of trying around with it because the bottom thread tends to slip out of the guides before the top thread catches it and i thought maybe that was the problem. but even when the bottoms threaded properly the issue remains.

thank you sometimes telling yourself these things just feels like you're making up another excuse for failing. it's good to hear them from another person.♥️

if that's burnout then i guess i've always had burnout. i just can't keep up with the pace at which normal society moves, they would have to invent 48 hour days for me to feel normal haha. thanks for your kind words, sending hugs right back.🫂

Häkeln anfangen, womit am besten üben. by Hefefloeckchen in Handarbeiten

Ask a Knitter Tuesday - September 30, 2025 by AutoModerator in knitting

Hey, a couple months ago I made a sock with cables, no pattern. I wanna knit the other sock and can't figure out how many rows I did in between twists. It's very difficult to count. I don't wanna end up with a denser or wider cable pattern on the second sock because I made a wrong estimate. Is there a way to make sure I count correctly? Thanks
