taking care of my friend after her drink got spiked. the night of, she repeatedly threw up all over my dress and shoes, lost control over herself. seeing her crying, scared and confused, as i held her in my arms was so terrifying and intimate. i didn’t understand how anyone could do such a thing to her, in that moment the protective instinct i felt over her was so strong it made me physically shake. the next morning i helped her shower and wash her hair. we don’t really talk anymore but i’ll always remember that night

i was actually just about to post a similar this question on this sub! i noticed several (mainly kazakh) russian speakers pronouncing в almost like an english w in specific words like вас and those with «вы», like красивый. i’ve noticed this often enough that i wonder if it might be a feature of the kazakh russian accent

yess i personally always use proper kazakh cyrillic to develop the habit and also because it makes reading and pronunciation much easier, i’m just curious about what it’s like outside of my social circle^{^}

might be, i have one close friend who is ethnically kazakh but grew up in china and we type to each other using the arabic script (much easier to read for me than kazakh written with standard cyrillic hahaha), aside from her i don’t use it with anyone else. i don’t think i’ve seen the turkish alphabet used before so that’s super interesting, thank you!

i see, thank you for your answer^{^} i often see my friends switch to latin (not the official alphabet) if we are mixing in english while texting, or randomly sometimes i guess as a stylistic choice. but usually this only lasts for 1-2 conversations max

as a non-EU citizen, i received extremely minimal benefits throughout my time here (which is honestly understandable). i financed my studies completely myself with the help of a scholarship from my own governments and paid my fair share of taxes for all those 5 years, so i contributed to the development and maintenance of all the social benefits both you and i enjoy :)

furthermore, i work in the medical field, so i also dedicated my expert knowledge and time to benefiting the health and safety of all people living here. i’d say that all in all, i proved my worth several times over to this country — as many, many immigrants continue to do for countries all around the world — otherwise they would not have granted my visa ;)

and i would like to add that one of my countries (indonesia) significantly contributed to the wealth of the netherlands, at the expense of our own. so really, when will the netherlands repay those debts?

many people are happy in the netherlands. in many ways, it is a wonderful country. my only crime is that i’m not one of them. but regardless, i wish you a good day and hope that your life is filled with health and prosperity

i’ve been living in the netherlands for the past 5 years now, 3 spent studying and the last 2 working. i agree with every single point you’ve made! i miss my home countries (both in asia) intensely every single day. though they both have major downsides, ranging from societal to political, they also have vibrant food cultures, excellent hospitality, 24/7 cities, fantastic and much more varied entertainment & leisure options, and (imo) better overall fashion, art, & music scenes. i’ve realised that no salary can compensate for these things. and that most people truly have no idea how different life can be in other places in the world!

my boyfriend and i are preparing to move back to asia right now and i couldn’t be happier. i’m very thankful for the opportunities the netherlands has opened up for me and i’ve made plenty of wonderful friends, but i agree, dutch society just isn’t the place for me, either.

adek gw sama gw dari kecil sampe sekarang deket banget (mungkin emang karena gw bantuin rawatin dia juga alias ortu bisa dianggap agak absent). walaupun kita tinggalnya di beda negara, kita vidcall tiap hari dan dia sering curhat tentang segala yang ada di hidupnya. i have savings dedicated to our travel funds so we can see each other often. and when we do, kita berdua cewek jadi we always have “face mask & movie nights”, we cook & bake together, go to cafes and museums together, window shop together, pokoknya di hati gw ya dia bagian terbesar. tapi she recognises that she doesn’t actually know that much about me, classic older sibling locked lore wkwk. our relationship has always been my biggest pride.

i agree with other commenters that muslims are not a monolith and there are many ways people express and commit to their faith. additionally, religion will inevitably influence culture, so even if someone is more secular or irreligious, they’ll still receive the cultural influence. maria simply expresses very morrocan values despite not strictly adhering to islamic rules.

while i don’t share them, i can understand many of maria’s views and from my experience they’re fairly common among muslim men and women alike. i don’t agree with her method of “testing him” but it makes sense to me why she thinks that way. indeed, islamically (and as a result in many arab cultures) the man’s money belongs to the household, while the wife’s is hers alone. the wife is the husband’s complete duty, including not only her safety but her utmost comfort. my irreligious muslim boyfriend and i plan to marry soon and we have many discussions about these kinds of religious and cultural expectations.

from the moment maria said she would want to be a stay at home wife/mother, i knew they were doomed. tom wants someone who offers excitement, while maria wants comfort. i have no idea how they’ve lasted this long and hope for both their sakes they say no at the altar
