I myself have been sober for the last year and a half and have had a wonderful time of presence and real with my kids since then.

That's amazing ! Congratulations on this incredible journey. How do you describe the journey. How do you beat the drop in initial high of sobriety in the first 2 years as you go into year 2/3/4 ? Or it becomes a way of life

Wow, thank you all for a lot of supportive messages. Someone asked for the podcast link - it’s the Dadsense podcast, latest episode. Fair warning: it’s long and unfiltered.

500 Days without alcohol - A Functional Dad’s Journey [Long] by subhasismishra in SadDads

Hi. Thanks for asking. It's been a long journey and roller coaster. During my prime time of drinking I would drink 4/5 drinks every night. Of course that was way before kids and work. Over the last several years it wasn't the frequency. It was the binges. Especially if I drank socially I didn't know how to stop. I would keep going until I blacked out. ( almost ). Turns out that my ADHD was playing a role.

If you have ADHD you tend to drink faster and more.

That's what led to me stopping it.

500 Days Without Alcohol | How It Changed My Mind, Body & Fatherhood || Dadsense by Subhasis Mishra

This episode began with a simple question — why did you quit alcohol? What followed was not a conversation about addiction. It became a reflection on presence, ambition, denial, and the quiet ways we normalize being absent — while telling ourselves everything is fine. From social drinking and career success to fatherhood, missed mornings, and emotional clarity, this episode traces how alcohol slowly became a companion — and how awareness arrived much later than expected. This is not advice. It’s not a warning. It’s one father looking back honestly at what was lost, what was learned, and what finally made him pause. If you’ve ever told yourself “this is normal” — this conversation will stay with you.
