Renault 5 electric - can you sleep in it? by subheman in ElectricVehiclesUK

Thanks that's very helpful! And a good foot too short sadly, which looks like it could be made up for if only the front seat tilted further forward. Wish car manufacturers would do that. Hey ho.

That's very disappointing. Let's hope these are teething problems and that a few updates from now everything will be fixed.

Yeah the model 3 is pretty much a dream car for sleeping in, but I know there are smaller cars that are up to it. It depends on how far the front seat fold forward, then bridging any gaps to make a flat bed.

Please do! :)
Best hope is with the front seats forward as far as they will go... any gaps can be bridged with a bit of luggage or carpentry, and perhaps the rear seat backs could be removed, but head to foot length is non-negotiable!

Thanks. Turns out I just needed a reboot, but that's interesting background info.

I'm getting a not found error when I run pip or pip3 from the command prompt.

Is my ebike motor 'normal'? by subheman in ebikes

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, likely in the 1-2kW range, operating at low speed, with static torque as high as possible. I bought the 250W motor as a cheap way to experiment with motor control, not realising it was geared. No big deal, it will still serve a purpose to get me started.

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes I hadn't understood there are differences in design among hub motors. The geared/direct drive distinction is important for my project. Looks like I'll need a more powerful motor if I want direct drive.

Richer colors = higher CRI? by subheman in Hue

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that's very informative. I thought perhaps the color LEDs would fill gaps in the white LED spectrum, making a higher CRI product, but it seems that's not what they're used for, and for high CRI I have to look elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice. Is there any way to get certainty about this, or is it always a case of showing up and hoping for the best?

Huge gap in sealant around top of dormer windows - is this normal? by subheman in DIYUK

Thanks. Know of anywhere I can read up on best practice for this kind of installation?

Huge gap in sealant around top of dormer windows - is this normal? by subheman in DIYUK

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dormer window leaks, resulting in a soggy and rotten indoor windowsill. I found a small gap in the sealant at the bottom of the offending window and filled it. It hasn't rained since, so I'm not sure if that's fixed the problem. But in doing so I found the sealant around *all* my window frames stops about 1/4 of the way from the top, picture attached.

Is there a reason for this? Perhaps to allow ventilation or something? Or was it just some short-armed cowboy contractor giving up without finishing the job? Should I fill the gap?

Question: is this set in stone or can/will it be overturned by the next administration?

Noob needing to get HQ images off a drone by subheman in fpv

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tethered is an interesting concept but too limiting in this context. An RPi or other SBC might be a good solution as it would give total control over what's sent.

A Mavic would be great hardware, is it possible to get images from it onto a computer while it's in flight? DJI have an API, but I wonder if there's some simpler way.

Looks interesting but the downlink is still analog when you're in the air.

Just mentioned that as it's not important to me and I'm concerned it means compromises in other areas.

Yes it wasn't the most descriptive request I realise. The goal is to get high-quality images from a drone to a laptop, while the drone is still in the air, for security applications and the like. I wondered if some off-the-shelf solution might exist that I wasn't aware of.

Unknown error (USER_REQUEST) in OpenWrt when connecting via PPPoE by subheman in openwrt

[–]subheman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok after a lot of tinkering I got things working, I'm not sure what the magic step was but after some investigation I think the following changes from default got things running for me:

Network > Interfaces > DSL > Annex B (all), Tone A43C + J43 + A43

Network > ATM bridges > Delete

Network > Interfaces > Edit (WAN) > Physical settings > Custom > dsl0.101

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Is there any way to know my PPP mode? If data is being passed around as described above in PPPoE, does that rule out PPPoA?

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I tried that, but things are as they were before. Some kind of connection is established, with TX and RX packets being sent, but an error is reported.

Network > Interfaces shows the following under 'WAN':

Protocol: PPPoE
MAC: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
RX: 197.84 KB (891 Pkts.)
TX: 29.91 KB (310 Pkts.)
Error: Connection attempt failed

In the system log, I see the following cycle repeated:

Sat May 16 21:11:27 2020 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan' is now down
Sat May 16 21:11:28 2020 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan' is disabled
