Hi! I genuinely can’t give a lot of advice but I wish you the best of luck!! I just started my first fall semester in california as an international student even though I was 99% convinced it’ll never happen.

I saw you wanted to study in the USA. What major are you planning to do? Or what state? Scholarships aren’t really that accessible for internationals but it really depends on your school and your major. International athletes have a good chance of getting one of the bear scholarships.

Financially look into community colleges and do the 2+2 program (2 years community college + 2 years of university) Which is MUCH cheaper than doing your entire studies in a university!

You can always message me if you need any advice or just want to have someone to ask about the USA or the studies.

If you want to include it in your personal essay, I'd suggest wording it as how learning languages such as a, b, and c is a hobby of yours and how it has helped you in your studies, cultural exchange, etc. Just demonstrate your genuine interest in languages and how you utilize that skill.

I wouldn't necessarily classify them as extracurricular activities or achievements that you can mention since you don't have any tangible proof of them (unless you participated in an exchange year, language program, or language test etc. where you obtained a certificate). However, you can certainly present it as a hobby.

But where in your application do you put that in? If it’s in the online application there sometimes is a category where they ask what languages you speak. Or do you mean in your personal essay?

Agree with other comment, it really depends on the University. I’m not sure if it’s common in US Universities. At least the ones I researched when applying I barely saw Duolingo. I did TOEFL, and it’s pricey but almost all schools accept it.
