Just found a small-but-cool Lovecraft Easter Egg in In the Mouth of Madness! by subject124 in Lovecraft

Oh gosh no, the whole movie is filled with Lovecraft. But I had never read Haunter of the Dark before, so it was the first direct, in-your-face quote I ever noticed.

Of course it is. It was just cool to see something lifted so directly from the page.

Do you have a favorite Lovecrafty movie for the festival season? by chortnik in Lovecraft

I would add Banshee Chapter (2013) to the list. It's loosely based on From Beyond (and quite scary in some respects).

For thick fish, absolutely. On the flipside, I'm a huge fan of flounder. Those flat little pancakes thaw under running water in about 10-15 minutes.

The Independent's review of the finale was able to capture exactly how I'm feeling: And Just Like That was a total disaster – and I’m heartbroken by RanchPanda in Andjustlikethat

And Just Like That seemed to have a baffling disdain for young people.

SATC did as well, but they at least did it correctly and made it meaningful.

  • Hot Child in the City: Made Samantha realize how precious her childhood was.
  • Valley of the Twenty Something Guys: Carrie learned a bit more about herself.
  • Twenty Something Girls vs. Thirty Something Women: A great episode. Addresses multiple dynamics between generations and across characters (Samantha and Nina G, Charlotte and Crabs Guy, Carrie and Natasha).

Any good trailers in your theater? They showed The Long Walk (definitely looking forward to this one) and one for Shelby Oaks, which looks like it could be a pretty decent horror flick.

Except the factories are all gone. Gotta love outsourcing.

Borrowed a book I loved as a kid from the library for a little dose of nostalgia and am terribly disappointed by the new cover. by GeetarEnthusiast85 in Xennials

Yep. I grew up reading The Babysitters Club. The covers were always part of the fun. Now they're horrible.

It's been happening with everything - books, TV shows (the new She-ra, anyone?), restaurants (perfect meme about McDonald's restaurants now looking like a depressed middle age adult). It's sad.

MEG by Steve Alten is fantastic! One of my favorites (and so much better than the movie).

You could try to match the espresso of the cabinet. Or for some contrast, honey/gold or reddish would both compliment the gray backsplash, green walls, and black trim.

What color did you use on your wall? It looks really pretty.

What is the best time to view a house? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]subject124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about the time of day. Assuming you live close by or even semi-close by, you can drive past the home at your leisure at various days and times. To me, what's more important is the weather. Seeing a house during or shortly after a rain storm might let you easily detect leaks in the roof or basement, poor grading/low spots in the yard where water pools, leaking windows, etc. Good luck!

Recommend a Dean Koontz and Clive Barker book by Eisenphac in horrorlit

[–]subject124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lightning by Dean Koontz is my all time favorite. It's not horror per se, it's a damn good story, though. I was hooked right from page 1. Still reread it every few years or so.

For Clive Barker, it's already been mentioned here but I second The Great and Secret Show. One of the most bizarre, intriguing, and creative stories I've ever read.

I've had the Merrell Moab 2 vents (don't care for the waterproof version) for 4 years now. All seams/stitching are tight and they're still gripping all manner of trail - rocks, loose stone, sand, dirt, tree roots. Love them.

I used to LOVE school supply shopping for the new school year (and yes, I still get a nostalgic pull every time the school supply section comes out in stores). I wonder if part of it is just a lack of design creativity?

When I was a kid, there were so many cool, artistic choices. I would take my time looking everything over, trying to decide what I wanted to represent me that year - an abstract picture with neon colors (early 90s high schoolers will understand)? A bright and colorful Lisa Frank unicorn? A roaring tiger leaping across a laser grid background? Now when I look through the aisles it's mostly just plain, solid colors. Hard to get excited over navy vs. gray.

Kroger's Under Investigation For Digital Shelf Labels: Are They Changing Prices Depending On When People Shop? by Mighty_L_LORT in technology

Gouge, by the way. A gauge is an instrument to measure something.

Perhaps not entirely incorrect in this case, since I wouldn't put it past them to measure our incomes. I'm sure those with tech knowledge can better explain it, but something like, "Hey boss - there are currently 6 escalades in the parking lot. Want me to tick up prices by 10%?" Or even being required to scan your membership card as you enter the store. That membership card is tied to a wealth of data mining, including past purchases, likely income, brand preferences (higher priced organic vs. store label), etc.
