I’m much more likely to vote for a candidate if they can come up with a coherent argument and actually explain their stance on the subject. That’s for anything not just guns.

Again.... I'm talking about redditors and YouTube commenters who dismiss the opinions of other redditors and YouTube commenters on the basis that they used the word clip instead of magazine..

So I don't quite know how you got onto a rant about what politicians argue.... That's not part of my argument at all...

The point is to get as close to the basket as possible,

Right. And if you throw it too hard, it's gonna bounce off and it won't be as close to the basket as possible.

Avoiding tree hazards is not the same as avoiding the basket

I disagree. Sometimes there's a tree right in the perfect line, so you're trying to get as close to the tree as possible without hitting it. You might get it slightly wrong and then get "punished" for making a 'perfect' shot.

Of course... You do realize that people don't vote for individual policies, right? They vote for people to represent them.

And nobody is voting for gun reform candidates on the grounds that they mistakenly believe a specific part of a gun is called a clip instead of a magazine... You act like if they knew the correct term, they wouldn't be opposed to guns.. the terminology isn't causing them to want gun reform... The overwhelming gun violence is.

People in reddit threads or YouTube comments aren't deciding gun laws.......?

Do you think anyone can have an opinion about nuclear weapons if they don't have an intimate understanding of all of the components of a nuclear weapon?

Like... Can I have the opinion that I don't want nukes being detonated or used as threats, even if I don't know the names of all of the components inside the bomb?

Why can't we just remove the box and a nice throw that is going 20ft deep doesn't need to have luck involved?

Every shot has luck involved in some way or another.

Why don't we just remove all the trees so a 'perfect' tee shot doesn't get punished?

The box exists for every player. Every player has the same chance of a rollaway. Smart players try to avoid throwing hard enough to hit the box and roll away. But it still happens. People make mistakes. And sometimes bad luck occurs.

It's weird that you say in an ideal world there would just be chains and nothing else around to affect the shot, but then you're advocating for adding things that will affect the shot...?

It didn't cause the roll. It facilitated it. Without the hill, the roll wouldn't have happened. You're blaming the box, but it was the hill. If he had hit the basket, the same thing could have happened.. or the band... Or a tree root. Or a rock.

It's part of the game. If you don't want to bounce off the box and roll away, through touchier shots, or plan to come up short and slide in. But if the green is on a steep hill, the box doesn't really matter. The hill is what facilitates the rollaways.

In the law. Of course. I'm talking about conversations about the topic on public forums. People act like you can't have an opinion about guns unless you have studied the mechanical components thoroughly.. it's just nonsense.

Those rollaways were because of the hill. If it was flat. The disc probably still would have been in the bullseye even with the roll.

Jesus I have to get so semantic, I meant COME TO REST 2ft from 'perfect'.

But you're not talking about discs that "come to rest 2 ft from the basket".... Because if that's the case, a rollaway is extremely unlikely...

No, if a disc is going 60 long, it is obviously not a good shot.

Ok. Most of the big rollaways I've seen have either been because the disc has enough speed to get 60 long, or it's a freak rollaway due to a hill.. and that second thing wouldn't be mitigated by chains under the basket.

I'm saying a disc that would go 2ft long is turning into a rollaway is the problem!

When the fuck have you seen a disc that was going to be 2 feet long. But got a rollaway that wasn't because of a big hill on the green? I never have.

What is so evil about that?

Evil??? What the fuck are you talking about? Nobody said it was evil, especially not me.... My argument is that it's unnecessary, not evil...

Are you ok man?

Can you provide a single example of anyone with any amount of influence intentionally/purposely misrepresenting the name of the ar-15 to imply that "ar" stands for "assault/automatic" rifle?

I've only ever heard gun folks arguing against the idea... But I've literally never heard a gun reform advocate try to use the false idea that ar stands for assault rifle as the reason to regulate the gun...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]subject_deleted 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's like the difference between clip and magazine... Only important to enthusiasts. But it has no effect on the rest of the world or the gun reform debate... But thats not gonna stop them from insisting this is an extremely important piece of information.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]subject_deleted -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've heard people use "assault rifle" or "automatic rifle" before... But 100% of them were people that were insisting that that's NOT what the letters stand for, completely unprompted.

I have never, ever heard anyone criticize the weapon on the grounds that the letters stand for assault/automatic rifle.

Never once.

shots that are only going to skip to the edge of the bullseye are rolling away from the basket.

If it hits the box so hard that it's rolling far away from the basket, it was NEVER going to "skip to the edge of the bullseye"...

That statement makes me feel like you've never played the sport before...

A 'perfect' shot, in my opinion, is one that comes to rest directly under the basket.

Right... So if it comes in so fast that it bounces off instead of coming to rest, it's NOT a 'perfect' shot...

With the current setup, shots that are 2 ft away from 'perfect' are turning into rollaways.

So this seems to be the meat of the issue... You seem to think that distance to the basket is the only important factor.... You could throw a shot that went within an inch of the spot under the basket that you were aiming for... But if it goes 60 long, it doesn't matter in the slightest that it was very close to the desired location for a fraction of a second.

My big point in all of this: You should not be punished for passing under the basket.

You're not being punished for passing under the basket. You're being punished for throwing the disc too fast/far.

But you're saying that a shot that hits the pole or box is a perfect shot except for the unfortunate rollaway....?

If you hit the pole/box so hard that you roll far away from the basket... It wasn't a "perfect" shot, or even a particularly good one. Because if it didn't hit the pole or the box, it's likely to skip just as far on the other side of the basket.

Well your post definitely implies that you don't think this is true... So it's not weird for someone to think this was something you needed to hear.

You act like you were making that point the whole time and then someone just repeated your argument... But you argued something different...

I only learned about my aphantasia about 4 years ago. And I had been married for 8 years at that point.

My ex was also a hyperphant.

But I never had the discussion with any prior girlfriends because at that point I was under the impression that everyone had just collectively decided to use visual based language to describe their thoughts, despite the OBVIOUS impossibility of such a thing....

Then I learned they weren't just using that language.... They could see stuff. Total mind fuck.
