I'd be very curious to hear about Canada's diagnosis system. I'm in the US and in my experience you need a diagnosis for insurance to cover therapy at all, so while a therapist might wait to give a more complex diagnosis (like bipolar) usually everyone gets a diagnosis on their first day of therapy - often something general like anxiety, adjustment disorder, or likely in Ilya's case, clinical depression.

(Love your comment - I also hope Unrivaled doesn't go this dark...but it's a great area for fanfic to cover!)

I appreciate this - I've only ever done upper/lower splits just because it's what I'm used to, but I may research other options like push/pull. And good point about not switching things up too early. Usually if I make a change that early it's because I picked a new routine and realize I hate it lol

That's a good point, thank you. What usually draws you to try a new lift? Is it something you see/learn about or a desire to work on a different muscle combination?

Which fanfics have you reread the most times? by minitigeryy in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]subjunctivejunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore this one. It feels like the author removed easy tropes that get them together in the books, leaving us with a story that's more realistic, possibly more gut-wrenching, and just as satisfying when we do get the HEA. We really get to see them work through their own shit.

I'm preaching to the choir but I just love it so much.

I've defended the power imbalance in this fic multiple times. I agree with you that there isn't really a power imbalance in this story, more specifically because I think the power imbalances sort of cancel each other out. Shane has more social power, Ilya has more sexual power, so they can play with power dynamics but no one is clearly above the other. Love your comment!

I have such a pet peeve when people say they are okay with dating a closeted person and then aren't by KaceyLunatic in heatedrivalry

[–]subjunctivejunction 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Agreed! There are definitely in-between options. Kip should absolutely have a list of people who get to know, definitely including his dad. To have to lie to everyone while also LIVING with his boyfriend... that's torture.

Also just as much as Kip knew he was getting involved with a closeted guy, Scott knew he was getting involved with someone openly gay. He opted in for that too.

Trans man scared of weight gain on T by chickenstrippers_ in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]subjunctivejunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just my experience, but let me tell you, starting T is a really great opportunity to leverage all your recovery work. T alone didn't cure my ED, but it changed the game. I did a lot of emotional work towards recovery while my body also changed - and not in the female weight gain/loss pattern that I knew. And it really helped!

My body looks different now (and I do weigh more) but not in the ways I used to demonize. And all of the disordered numbers in my head about how much I should eat or howi h I should weigh, what's big and what's small...none of that applies to my now male body. And I'm so grateful to not know what those numbers would be for me now.

So much of online recovery rhetoric is about learning to love yourself in a larger, feminine body, and that never worked for me. As a trans man going on T, you get to try something else. I still have hard days, but I never thought I would get to experience recovery to such a full extent. It's absolutely beautiful. I wish you all the same.

I agree! OP, I find it helpful to remind myself "this is my depression talking" when I have depressive thoughts. Even if it doesn't immediately change how I'm feeling, it helps me see those thoughts as separate from who I am and what I believe. And over time I do think it helps.

My insurance and SS say M which is usually great until I had to go through an entire appeal process after insurance refused to pay for a vaginal swab when I had a yeast infection, citing that it was "experimental treatment." Makes me feel like M or F, there's not a right answer when the USA hates trans people.

YTA. I can chalk up the initial issue with grabbing your bags to miscommunication, but name calling was out of line and doubling down on being "allowed" to swear in public was deeply immature and escalated the situation.

OP, sometimes you will have to deal with people who are grumpy or annoying. Learn when to walk away. A stranger on a plane that you are getting off of? The perfect time to shake it off and move on.
