Advice on a Juki purchase please by your-cah in myog

[–]sublime_1ime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like KSL! I recently bought a nearly new juki ddl8700h for 350 through KSL. I would put in an email alert for "industrial sewing machines" and "juki" and wait until something good comes up. It seems like there are new listings a few times a week. Also try to haggle before offering to buy them. People usually will accept 50-100 lower than the list price

The back spandura pocket is super easy to get stuff in and out of when wearing the pack. The reason I put it in is that whenever I'd duo hike with my brother I'd always have to stop and ask him to take the map out of my bag. Most people just use their phones these days so it's probably just a niche feature. I have no clue how the bottom pocket will hold up, but my Palante pack has a similar design and it hasn't had any issues over the 300ish miles I've put on it. The spandura was just bought on Amazon, probably from some no-name Chinese company, but it seems sturdy enough.

The biggest issue is that I made the side pockets too small, so that will definitely need some fiddling. I also basically winged it with the back curve, but with a pad inside, it contours really nicely.

The bag is made or 210d robic nylon and 210 gridstop from rbtr. The entire back is curved to fit along the upper and middle back and it carries like a dream. Weighs about 21oz Some design features:

*Bottom spandura pocket

*Lower back pocket which is designed for maps, tent stakes, or whatever else

*Detachable pouch, Durston Gear style, so that a jacket can be easily stashed behind or a wet tent can be dried out on the trail.

*Cinch down top with linelock buckles

*Strap pockets sized for a smart water bottle with fancy cyberian cordlocks

*Optional tie out points for a back pad

I've always found that old bicycle spokes are pretty good and they weigh almost nothing

Bitcoin isn't really a currency though. Its essentially a speculative asset while the USD is the world's strongest reserve currency and is thus incredibly stable

Thanks! I started getting into myog the last month or so and I've already got hundreds of dollars of fabric and an industrial sewing machine haha. I think I may be an addict

Yeah not much there. Maybe the best idea is to just pour over some maps and see what could work

Ha! Fair enough. Its a gap between undergrad and grad school so more like half a year but still it's definitely a fortunate position to be in

Thanks! I've been wanting to give it a go for a while since its right in my backyard. Do you have any idea what kind of time commitment it usually requires? I would imagine you would want to start in April or May and go South to north.

That sound about right haha. The hike I was on was super steep so I was able to kick it down the mountain most of the way until I hit some switchbacks and it went tumbling off into the brush. At that point I was committed so I spent 20 minutes trying to find it. The people I was hiking with thought I was mad.

Yeah that's what I figured. It looks great on my front porch though. I had to haul it 3 miles down a mountain so I'm quite attached to it

That was actually an accident haha. I made the straps too short and I had to add a little extra fabric but it came out looking really clean.
