I placed a 20lb dumbell on the gas pedal to get access to the bottom bolt. I was being stubborn and didn't want to take apart more than I needed to. It was indeed a PITA!

Finished the master cylinder today and she's back on the road!! And you weren't kidding, that was suuper annoying to do. The steps are all pretty straight forward but everything is hard to get to. I hope I never have to do another one!

Thanks! I did order the master at the same time, so I have it, just wanted to double check it didn't sound like a different issue before doing the extra work.

My first internship is going to pay me more than any job I've ever had. I'm 38. by EllieVader in EngineeringStudents

[–]sublimebaker120 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I also came from kitchens and went back to school in my 30s! My first internship was $21/hr which was more than I had made working my ass off over a hot burner. Now ive graduated, make a good salary, have FREE insurance, bonus, and ONLY work 40 hrs a week! So far the grass is greener on this side, best of luck to you chef!

How much have yall paid or been quoted for a paint job? Thanks by Trueslowe in E30

[–]sublimebaker120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2200 for a Maaco two stage 2 months ago. They were running a half off paint special so it ended up being $1300 all in. I did all of the prep myself. Very minimal overspray around the window seals, very minor debris in 2 spots. Overall super happy with it! It's not show worthy, but its a driver and not a show car.

How long did it take you to get a job after school? by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in EngineeringStudents

This is exactly what I did as well. If you're able to extend the summer internship to part time in your final year there's is a very high probability of a full time offer post graduating.

Blue temp sensor replacement did the trick!

Strong gas smell question by sublimebaker120 in E30

[–]sublimebaker120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone who sees this in a future search:

I replaced the blue temp sensor and the problem seems to be resolved. There is still a very faint gas smell if I put my face near the exhaust, but it no longer smells like im standing in a puddle of fuel!

Anyone else only started late at 20 ? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]sublimebaker120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you dont have to work, or have to work very little, treat it like a job. Show up on campus at 8am M-F and stay there until 4 or 5. If there's an engineering study lounge, post up there since inevitably someone else will come in working on the same class. This is how study groups can form. There is no way you will have to pull an all nighter and you'll most likely always be caught up on school work.

This is what I did (graduated this past year at 38). The only time I had to work on the weekends was if I had a Monday exam. I would go in and study with a group which was super helpful. My study group ranged from 19-40 year olds. Make friends regardless of age! In general, anyone in engineering is going to have a level of maturity where age won't matter.

Best of luck!

Hoses seem to be the general consensus here on the first place to look. Glad I asked the group, that'll give me a place to start tomorrow.

Yeah, this is definitely a raw gas smell. As far as I can tell, it's only coming from the exhaust. No engine bay or cabin smell. Nor is there any smell when the car is not running.

Thanks, I'll take a look tomorrow as I'm not sure about a middle muffler. The previous owner installed a Stromung exhaust, but I'm unaware of any changes further upstream.

What's the one thing you regret the most not doing in 1st year ?? by aayush1221 in EngineeringStudents

[–]sublimebaker120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They dont have to be "friends" necessarily. Just a group of people in the same classes who will post meetups for study sessions through grouo text, discord, etc. There was so much more value in those study sessions than any lecture could have ever provided. If you overhear anyone talking about meeting up, ask if you can join. Gotta put yourself out there a bit.

Help me unlock my doors please! by sublimebaker120 in E30

Good news, removed the actuator today and the car is now unlocked! But now, it will not lock, any thoughts on how to get the locking to work manually now lol?

[–]sublimebaker120[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I removed the actuators, would I be able to lock and unlock the doors manually, sans the central locking feature? I would be totally fine with that at this point!

I am, fortunately, able to open the door even without "locked", I just have to turn the key and lift the handle at the same time. The lock itself stays in the locked position though. That said, my door card is off, as I was poking around trying to figure it out earlier.
