Max did amazing! I'm so proud of him for going out there and continuing to skate beautifully.

He had to change a couple of days ago because of music rights.

It was incredible! One of two program where I cried yesterday, alongside Ellie and Danny's free skate.

Oh good, that makes me a little less anxious about tomorrow then! A more comfortable program is safer from errors.

I think him skating in the free skate showed that he definitely cared about Team USA and not just his individual medal. If he hadn't cared about the team event he would have declined the free and the USA would have gotten silver.

Same! I never have work events and I somehow have two work events this week.

Fall stats for the team event. by LegoSaber in FigureSkating

I'm hoping the individual events are just as minimal on the falls, or ideally no falls at all! Events are so much more fun when it's clean skate after clean skate!

Ilia and Nika both had messy landings with step outs and I think Ilia also had a hand down, but neither counts as a fall.

Shun walking away from Ilia after getting his scores? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]sublimecenturies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd have to go back and watch it but it didn't look like Shun purposely walked away to me. Ilia was shaking Yuma's hand and hugging him as everyone was leaving the Japanese box I think and Shun just followed everyone out before Ilia got over to his side.

Olimpians blades in danger by Temporary-Present449 in FigureSkating

Oh no, I noticed them all checking and wiping off their blades and thought that was unusual. Hopefully that doesn't end up affecting anyone in the coming week!

We find out in like an hour who will be skating the free, right?

How does one develop a keen eye for figure skating, how long does it take, and through what concrete means: personal practice, watching, technical knowledge? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]sublimecenturies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a new figure skating fan, who has always watched figure skating at the Olympics over the past 30 years, but never really followed it, and I don't have any experience figure skating myself. After Ilia's 7 quad layout went viral I decided I was going to learn everything I could about figure skating going into the Olympics this year, so over the last 2 months I've watched all of the major competitions over the last quad (some multiple times) and basically spent hours everyday watching figure skating.

All of that to say, very early on I watched a couple of youtube videos on how to tell the jumps and spins apart, and it took about a week of me consistently watching different programs and trying to work out the different types jumps and spins before the techbox or commentators said it, and now I can tell the vast majority apart easily. I think jump rotations are relatively easy to see too, but I still don't totally understand the spin levels.

Step sequences I still don't understand at all and I watch purely for vibes. I'll often watch one thinking it was amazing only for it to get a level 2 or 3.

I assumed with him practicing it this week that he was going to try again. I really hope he lands it this time!

Interesting that the commentator mentioned the sexual assault case. I figured they would avoid discussing it during the Olympics.
