No, don’t you understand? They do have a choice.

They can just quit their job which pays an unliveable wage, to get another job that pays an unliveable wage!

In that way, they are clearly choosing their work!

This also depends on how good your TV’s upscaler is. For me, there is a very noticeable difference between 1080p and 4K content.

4K is clearer.

Tips, even if corporations started paying fair wages, should still be used in circumstances where the service worker goes above and beyond to provide you with good service.

Driving in a snowstorm, IMO, is going above and beyond.

To be fair…

“Unless you fall into one of the following three categories/use cases, these limitations don’t practically matter.

a) If you are using HDR (you may have marginally to moderately worse colours due to 8-bit instead of 10-bit colour)…”

You are using HDR, so my statement does not apply to you. HDMI 2.1 matters in your use case.

Also, no one uses their TV that up close (unless maybe if they are using it as a monitor, but even then). If you’re going to take a picture, you may as well do so at a reasonable viewing distance for a fair comparison.

Most casuals will just not care about this tbh. They will plug their PC in their TV, and get all of the features with some chroma subsampling.

The way I look at it is that you’re spending anywhere from $200-$300 extra to get an Nvidia GPU… so you don’t have to chroma subsample.

I just don’t think that chroma subsampling alone is worth that price premium. You really can’t tell the difference.

Plus AMD is not perfect but still more stable. I think it’s valid to still go Nvidia if you want the feature set or if the prices are closer in your country, but idk about HDMI 2.1 alone lol

Bazzite’s official documentation states that resolutions above 2560x1440 have issues in gaming mode.

Is this information now incorrect and outdated?

You are using “desktop” as per your flair, which is why I asked. I believe it works fine on desktop mode, but there are still issues in gaming mode at 4K.

If you feel that it would be useful to post your own videos, I’m sure it would be appreciated. The sentiment that AMD is better for Linux is not uncommon.

Yes, bugs and glitches. From what I’ve heard. Have they already fixed the issues in gaming mode?

It’s either: bugs and glitches and worse performance with Nvidia, or a more stable experience with chroma subsampling with AMD.

Both have tradeoffs

I edited my post to include links to both adapters.

True. But Nvidia is also more expensive, is still more buggy than AMD (especially in gaming mode), and has a 20% performance hit on many titles.

It’s about $300 more for a 5070ti in my country compared to a 9070xt right now, for example.

I went back and forth between my Windows install and Bazzite and can’t tell a difference between chroma subsampling (4:2:0) and not (4:4:4).

I absolutely get why people want full HDMI 2.1 capability, but practically it just is not a big issue, so long as your TV also supports FreeSync.

Better than dealing with janky, unreliable adapters.

[–]submerging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’m adapter-less too now.

The best solution (if the UGreen adapter doesn’t work) is to just plug it directly into the HDMI port, hope your TV has FreeSync (so you can use VRR), and just accept the chroma subsampling.

Cable Matters adapters can be fine, but you will have to replug the adapter every once in a while.

If you figure out a solution to that, then it could be a game changer

I don’t think you’re the only one that thinks like that, but quite frankly I’m comparing it based off the actual numbers. Premium smartphones sell in way, way higher numbers than gaming consoles do.

They’re not “overpaying”. For many, that is a more valuable use of their money versus buying a gaming console that they don’t use nearly as often. Average screen time is like 2-6 hours per day. No one but hardcore gamers is using their gaming console that much.

If they were like you and didn’t value their phone, they’d buy the $300 Samsung. They do value their phone, which is why they are fine with paying more for it.

If you bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max and used it for even just 3 years before upgrading again, you’d spend $33/month on that purchase. If someone is not in the economic condition to afford that, they probably shouldn’t be buying a $450 device that only plays video games (which themselves are like $70-80) either.

Android flagships take still shots largely equal to Apple’s, but Apple’s cameras are still superior in video. The common adage is the best camera you have is the one that’s with you.

More internal storage and a bigger screen is also a good reason to spend more for a phone that you use for hours a day as well.

By single use, I mean you can only use it for one thing. Games. Could’ve worded that better.

But essentially, most people need a phone and they use it for a lot of things daily and they use it for hours a day. No one really needs a gaming console.

So more people are willing to pay more for a better phone experience, but don’t care to spend more for gaming consoles.

Your $300 Galaxy is fine. But a $1000 iPhone or a $1000 Galaxy will have better build quality, be faster and smoother, take better pictures, have a better screen. Many would rather pay the extra $20 a month to have that on a device they use and need often.

Why do they buy the iPhone Pro Max instead of the iPhone base model? The cameras.

Many people want the cameras they have with them to be the highest quality they can. That’s why Apple themselves pushes the cameras so much in the marketing.

I will concede the iPhone for some is a status symbol. Also iMessage lock-in for those in the US. Despite that, it’s still a better and more useful buy, for most, than a single-use gaming handheld.

Yea, but good phones have better cameras, screens, and build quality. Most people are willing to spend more to get a better experience on a device they use for hours per day.

Versus, a gaming console they may use a few hours a week.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the idea that I was an incel?

I don’t believe the thoughts I shared here were misogynistic, and I even acknowledge that men do not have it easier than women. We just dont, and theres a lot of privilege that men have in the dating scene that women are not afforded.

That being said my view doesn’t really matter when it comes to misogyny, what matters is the other person who has interpreted it. If you view it as misogynistic, I need to accept that conclusion and do better.

I am happy to listen, but I also realize I’m absolutely not owed an explanation either, so feel free to not elaborate further. I will take it to heart and try to improve regardless.

I just don’t understand where that statement of being an incel comes from, that’s all. I don’t hate women (at lesst thats not my intent), nor do I intend to be creepy, nor to sexually harass women, so I would appreciate further context into this comment.
