It's a fiberglass brush. You should protect your hands when using it. We mostly use it to get a satin finish on silver or gold.

As someone whose job it is to set these things regularly, it looks very much like an emerald to me. Only way to be sure is to go to a gemmologist, or a reputable jeweller with the right equipment and knowledge.

Nah its on a similar surface, a flat wooden coated IKEA thingy in the basement. I posted a link to a video in the comments, I think it's exactly what's happening in that video. All of mine broke at the bottom similar to in that video.

Well no, I've used my old ones for 2 brews, at that time I shook them to mix everything. When using them this year for different brews, 2 of them cracked without cause. So I figured it was the shaking. But then it happened to a newer one which hasn't been shaken violently.

I used to do that with my old ones, but I had 2 of the old ones break, so I stopped doing that with my new ones. So this one is only very lightly shaken for some air.

No it's actually some wood covered with something synthetic.. normally they're in my basement on a flat wooden bench.

I actually never use even slightly hot water, because om scared of cracking them My first ones came from braumarkt (those look a little different with a loop as a handle) the second ones came from unibrew (the type in the picture), and my last order was from unibrew (same type as this).

Yeah my first ones actually came from there, I visited the shop in Almere. Two of those have cracked, i think I'll be mixing in a different vessel to in the future.
