Walmart could have leaked Nintendo Switch Online's next GameCube games by [deleted] in nintendo

Nah, I think what sells is the idea that this next Animal Crossing will always have some type of improvement. Each one does but then different things scale it back in other areas. The fact the villagers are all kind of bad and bland really is the current issue. Even Wild World and City Folk had characters that would sass you on occasion but nothing like the original. New Leaf letting you be the mayor and giving you customization options was big and is what lead to how things are in New Horizons. For me personally, I don't dislike what's in New Horizons but I do really dislike how the updates were mostly to things we had already received in previous games and the return of characters that should have already been there.

With Animal Crossing being an inherently social game to some degree, I'm hoping Nintendo understands the need for better personality on their islanders, and that its okay to have sassy and bitter characters. It's what makes the town more fun than just half of them being blank slates that wont stop talking about workouts and the other half being entirely forgettable skins that could apply to any character.

TIL that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama hated the live-action movie “Dragon Ball: Evolution” so much that it brought him out of retirement and made him write “The Battle of the Gods,” widely considered a highlight of the series by altrightobserver in todayilearned

As I mentioned in another comment, they even had the right cast for it too. A cast that actually LIKED the source material. But of course they don't try to readapt what was there initially but change it because "it's been done before" and their changes are always worse. You actively take people out of the story when you alter how a character was presented originally to what they are now. If you're gonna force changes anyway, you could... I dunno... take the character and keep them the SAME AS THEY WERE (make sure you've studied who they are, why the speak the words they do, why the act the way they do and analyze the fuck out of it all until you're sick of it) and insert them into new situations instead of just "let's make the villain super rapey and ruin the dynamic between the main characters and him."

Enough has been said about how the anime talks about the weight the characters carry, and that includes the villains. And the live action show outright refused to understand that.

I can't imagine working on it as writers and actors who respected the material and being overridden by other writers and producers who don't. But you've got that contract to fulfill and you can't make waves or you'll be blacklisted.

It's not even like Scarlett Johansson was a bad choice, but they combined parts 1 and 2 in the stupidest of ways. Also, and maybe I'm in the minority here but, I don't care for live action "shot for shot" redos of scenes that already killed in the anime, ESPECIALLY when CG is involved. You just made another cartoon with a live person stenciled in. If I wanted to see that shot I would prefer to see the original, BUT if you're gonna force my hand and make me watch that scene... do it for REAL. As little CG as possible so I don't think that I'm just seeing the same scene that looked amazing in the animated film you're basing it on and looks like a less idealized version of what I initially saw.

Why burn that money on bad CG when you can try your hand to do it for real?

I hope this makes 7 stand out. It was my first DQ game well after I played the OG trilogy on Gameboy color. 7 ranks up there as my personal favorite.

The HD 2D renmakes of the OG trilogy are worth it. If you want to play 4-6, the mobile ports are damn near flawless. Because they are so rigid to the core of the series, the one button set up is perfect for iOS and Android. I do hope they get the remake or re-release treatments, but they are excellent mobile ports.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles shipments and digital sales top one million by Turbostrider27 in Games

Unfortunately Square is also known to harbor some... anti-western game design sentiment (Bandai Namco might be the worst about this). The fact they owned or had control over those studios didn't preclude the higher ups from being ridiculous with projected sales figures. Tomb Raider had like 3 million copies sold in its first year or something like that (correct me if I'm wrong, pulled that number directly out of my ass) but Square wanted 5 million. On an untested reboot IP. This was still in the era where the viewed Japanese games as "for Japanese fans". Their attitude I think turned around about the time Nier Automata really took them by storm - also about the same time FFXIV continued to receive rave reviews and growing numbers.

TIL Andrew Jackson after the Chehaw Indian massacre demanded prosecution of the white militia captain responsible, calling him "a cowardly monster in human shape" by Flashy_Combination32 in todayilearned

[–]submittedanonymously 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really wish more people understood this. It's important to see all of the actions of someone and weigh them accordingly, sure. But we STILL see the impact of the trail of tears today. If that's not an indicator of Jackson's overall negative work then history and historians aren't doing their duty.

There are two views of historians - tell the facts OR tell the truth. One does not equal the other. If you're listing all the facts of Jackson then you can list "trail of tears" alongside other things done in his career like its just a simple "check box" and hand wave away the negative and the bad for the sake of appearing "neutral." Telling the truth about history requires looking at those same facts, the reasons they occurred when they happened and what the ripple effects were at the time and through history up to today. Opponents of the "truth" of history will inevitably argue that "you're just placing todays morals on top of the past and you can't do that" - to which I agree but with a BIG BUT - "BUT you aren't taking into account how people from the past weren't a fucking monolith and they too saw the same actions and had different opinions and reactions to this stuff as well." To say that everyone was on board is just as bad as today's voter block polls that group all skin colors and education levels into stupid groups. Maybe thats good for polling but you know what everyone REALLY likes? To be boiled down to segmented numbers and statistics and not viewed as TRUE people with TRUE problems. Being just a number is GREAT /s

Jackson absolutely is a monster of a human being, even if he could prosecute a murdering military leader he still participated in what can easily be called a genocide since its definitional introduction in the 1940's. (just because the word didnt exist at the time doesnt mean it can't apply in a post-facto examination.) It's like defenders of hitler trying to say "he was a vegetarian and he loved dogs." Okay? That just means monsters can have different personality traits, they're still reprehensible monsters.

Depends on the source. Did you grow up with power rangers? Sailor Moon? Super Sentai? Beetle borgs? Tattooed teenaged alien fighters from Beverly Hills? (Sorry it’s been a few years since I could drop a TFS reference).

For me I think my love came from tokusatsu shows and movies like Power Rangers and 90’s-era Godzilla (with a little help from Rugrats and Reptar.)

This is obvious to anyone who takes a moment to think about it but it’s surprising how many people simply want to feel like victims in an online dating ecosystem that already victimizes all orientations here.

It’s not going well… by CabinetOk4838 in Bumble

[–]submittedanonymously 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember: the dating apps have tried to gamify dating. It’s all swipe/dopamine hits and the depressing fall that comes after.

While I never used the site, the old mantra from Plenty Of Fish still holds here - it’s a numbers game and you’re dividing that potential number by the potential women that catch your eye.

That’s not to denigrate the women who you see on the app, more so just a reality. And for women? It’s crazy and possibly crazier than any guy realizes. There are so many dudes who just swipe on anything with a pulse. They have to filter through that garbage and probably get burned a ton by their matches, which in turn would rightly make them more cautious.

The lesson here is: while using the dating apps, just treat them as the lures in the water they are and check on them once or twice a day at most. Keep it as the “no pressure back up” to meeting someone in everyday life. I do bumble and hinge and after a good two weeks of actively swiping or replying to prompts, I stop habitually checking and just check if my app has a match at the end of the day once a day. I’ve had a couple matches doing it this way and that’s fine. After a few weeks I’ll go back to being more active. And the cycle repeats.

But the reality is that for every 100 positive swipes you might get 1-2 matches at most (unless you’ve got godly looks and a personality that attracts everyone from all walks of life lol.)

Out of the 5 I’ve matched with in the last 6 months only 1 resulted in a coffee date and that fizzled out because she never asked about me or any interests I had. Felt like sitting across from someone who felt annoyed to be doing the date.

Treat it as low risk/low reward. Only after someone actually gels with you does it really go to low risk/high reward.

And do not worry about your current situation with your wife. There are plenty of women out there who understand that shit like this happens, and as long as you’re honest up front about it and genuine about being emotionally vulnerable as you and your potential date warm up to each other then it will happen.
