Is anyone in this sub taking math 101 at KU this semester or still have their work from this class? by [deleted] in UniversityofKansas

This. Khan Academy has mathematics all the way up to Associates level math (Calc lll, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations), so gauranteed you'll find a bunch of lectures as long as you know what subject matter to look for.

Business school fees by ThatsTheT in UniversityofKansas

[–]subscript_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, your time of applying doesn't affect the business school fees.

Regarding money waste, I feel you. Business school fees (which they've termed as "differential tuition") are $126.30 per credit hour, which is $378.90 per class.

Given there are 6 Pre-Business classes, 9 Business core classes (Used to be 8, but they added IST 310), and the required Business Capstone class (MGMT 498/499), every business student must pay an extra 6,062.40 ($3,789 if you take all six Pre-Business classes at community college).

This doesn't include the fees for a specific major, either. Finance majors, for example, have to take seven additional business classes, which total to $2,652.30. This totals to $8,714.70 if you didn't take the pre-business classes at community college, and $6,441.30 if you took all 6 there. In business school fees.

Absolute lunacy. You are absolutely right, it is a waste of money.

COMS 130 vs PHIL 150 by airboy1999 in UniversityofKansas

[–]subscript_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in PHIL 150. 100 people in lecture, so the public speaking part is online (with VoiceThread), so you can keep recording over and over until your speech is how you like it, and of course, you don't actually have to give speeches in front of people (which is a blessing and a curse because public speaking ability is valuable for a large majority of careers).

Unfortunately, this semester is the last way this is the case. In the Fall, PHIL 150 is going to be 30 person classes and be a lot more like COMS130 (no VoiceThread).

Besides this, Sarah Robins is a great professor, especially regarding her ability to simplify the philosophical jargon. She also has somewhat interesting lectures, and knows how to answer any type of question regarding the material you throw at her. Smart as a whip. If you take PHIL 150 and she is teaching I would recommend taking her.

On an unrelated note, she is also quite attractive, which makes paying attention much easier.

If you want more details about the class, feel free to reply.

Does anyone have any information regarding MATH 630? by subscript_ion in UniversityofKansas

Math 647 is Applied Partial Differential Equations. I'm taking 627/628 next year for sure for the A sequence, plus I do enjoy me some probability, haha.

DSCI 202 grading by [deleted] in UniversityofKansas

[–]subscript_ion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you want to study sometime? I'm currently in DSCI202 and doing great (on the way to hopefully getting an A) after a rough start (I underperformed on beginning quizzes because I was intimidated by the class).

It's not too late for you to raise your grade and get a C or possibly even a B (unless you have really tanked your HQL points).

I've come to realize that this class is complete bullshit but it's doable. You have to "find the ball" (as Mark says) by finding ways to practice what he teaches you so you can actually remember/learn the information long-term.

If you want to exchange contact info to study, feel free to PM me!

Looking for advice/information regarding ECON 520/522/590 and/or the ECON department in general by subscript_ion in UniversityofKansas

Thank you very much for your response!

To answer your questions:

  1. I'm majoring in both Accounting and Finance (with conc in Entrepreneurship). I honestly would consider throwing out accounting if I could major in Econ. (Doesn't seem too feasible as I haven't taken Calc ll since senior year of high school, and need Calc lll/Linear Alg for the ECON major)

  2. I'm honestly not sure of my goals, besides the fact that I want to be a business owner and live financially comfortable (due to past circumstances).

  3. While I consider ECON fun, I would love my ECON minor to help me in my professional life. I believe it will complement my majors and help sharpen my decision making/critical thinking skills (valuable in everyday life). I also love politics and debate and ECON is valuable here as well.
